I do live in Virginia and I know how it works. I’m just saying it’s wrong for just any old uneducated, uninvolved schmoe to vote in any party primary. If I’m not a member of the Elks Club, should I be allowed to vote for their leadership?[/quote]

Your analogy is just stupid. Both sides, BOTH, vote in primaries of party’s they don’t generally identify with, it’s a strategy. How did Bratt ever beat Cantor? Republicans also love to completely mix it up and not have a primary at all so they can guarantee their Virginia GOP candidate of choice (which is how Youngkin got the nod and not Amanda Chase).
