How much do you drink?

If I wasn't dealing with chronic illness and severe depression, I'd be in drinking a lot more.

I envy people who are out having a great time this summer. Who are healthy and can actually live life.

I’m just a busy dad and I don’t have time to drink. If I have time to sit down and sip something cold - I usually desperately need some water.

Also, I’m healthy and can’t stand the idea of wasting my summer days being drunk. Go for a bike ride or a hike you drunk f*cks.

This is a strange take. Most people drink at night, if they drink. Plenty of time to hike or bike during the day, then have a delicious cocktail or glass of wine in the evening.

If I've been hiking, I want water. If I'm going hiking tomorrow, I don't want anything resembling a hangover. When you're heading up a mountain there isn't a worse feeling than indigestion, a headache, etc.

I love certain cocktails, but not more than alot of other things I might be doing on a Saturday night. I just can't be bothered to make one. I've had great wine, but it just feels like more trouble than its worth to track down a good one and the bottle inevitably sits around for ages.

The best tasting beers I ever have are after a long bike ride or skiing. I’ll drink water then too, but beer just really scratches an itch after those (not running or swimming though, so it’s not all aerobic activities).

+1

Actually the best meal on the planet is after a mountaineering trip where you got up at 4 am and return at 5 pm exhausted. Then head to the local burger joint for a fatty burger and fries - I'm a wine person, but my friends will have a beer. Either way, it's SO GOOD!!! Then I sleep like a baby at 8 pm and am up early for another adventure or work or whatever.

I think going through life making good choices, enjoying life, and not judging others is the healthiest way.

Oh man. I think it's awesome that you take such great care of yourself, but do you really believe that at 57, anyone thinks you are under the age of 25 (or even younger?!).

Totally, on the food, but the beer does nothing for me. Just makes me burp. I’d rather have something with ice. Guess you’re just built different.

As I’ve aged and my kids have grown up I’ve also gotten to know a lot of other parents whose drinking has just aged really poorly. They range from people literally losing enormous success, to just boring losers… so glad I’m not interested anymore.

Now I might have 2 beers a month, and I wouldn’t care if I had none. It’s just such a waste of time and literally nothing good comes of it.

I don't drink at all. It's awesome! I save money, never have a hangover, don't spend any time worrying about what I did the night before...

Sobriety is wealth.

I've never been a fan of how alcohol makes me feel.

I do love champagne. So I have a glass on special occasions sometimes. I think the last time was NYE. I would estimate that I have 4-6 glasses of wine, most of them sparkling, per year. And there is no alcohol in my house.

Now on Wegovy, and don't ever feel like drinking again. So that's a separate thing, I guess.

I am very inconsistent.

Alcohol now keeps me awake at night (even one glass of red wine) and if I drink more than 2 glasses I feel it the next day. Usually feel bloated and achy and lethargic.

And 1-2 drinks does almost nothing for me - basically no buzz so I am only drinking it for taste. Its expensive to drink for taste!

So sometimes I don't drink at all for a month or two, then I might buy a case of cider and drink one a day after work or I might have a month with lots of social events and dinners with friends and I will drink more that month.

I probably get 'drunk' about once a year. I would say I drink enough to feel buzzed maybe another 8-10 times a year. The rest of the time, I just have 1-2 drinks to enjoy the drink. Some months that might be 2-3 times a week and some months zero.

This seems to be the norm. It’s hard to imagine being 45+ and doing much more.

People have children later now. Where did you come up with 25?

He didn't tell anyone what to do. Why are you so defensive?

Have you ever considered counseling or AA?

Maybe four drinks a year at a party or whatever. I just lost taste for it over the years. Since I only drink at a gathering, the pandemic really turned me into a non drinker. That’s fine. But even at nearly 60 I still feel like a social outcast sometimes when things revolve around drinking. (Group vacations, winery trips, etc)
