Like so many deadlocked conflicts whether its woman's autonomy over their own bodies , immigration, the budget or even the UN Security Council engaging in political games while millions starve, there is more obstruction than vision in this country and wider world right now. Haiti is an extreme example of where that leads, but Jan 6th was not far off the mark of descent into that. The fact that Trump is the GOP choice for President of the United States just shows that the problems in this country run much deeper than him. It's not just vote against him and we have righted ourselves. Why is he their nominee ? THAT is what is wrong in this country. As for the border and immigration, I know that we need immigration ( taxes on labor, birth rate ) to continue to grow our economy and support Social Security, but honestly I also don't live in Texas or Arizona or Florida and if people down there are fed up with drowning in this problem so much so that they are going to enforce the border themselves then it is CLEAR that we are not supporting them enough and that there is a real security problem down there. You know, I love Martha's Vineyard, but the truth is the migrants that were flown there were quite quickly rounded up ( in a nice way) and " relocated" somewhere else by the good residents of MV. So, if they went NIMBY on it then everyone should stop with the hypocrisy and give the state of Texas and Az the security at the border that they are asking for |
DP. I don't know if they were released into the country, but why would you be shocked if that was the case? It's the way things work now at the border. They were definitely arrested, but IMO should have simply been immediately deported. Texas Governor Greg Abbott also responded to Thursday's incident, saying the following: "About the surge of illegal immigrants in El Paso: The TX National Guard & Dept. of Public Safety quickly regained control & are redoubling the razor wire barriers. DPS is instructed to arrest every illegal immigrant involved for criminal trespass & destruction of property." https://6abc.com/el-paso-border-breach-migrants-storm-what-happened-in-texas-sb4-immigration-law/14559142/ |
Because it is an island with no resources to help migrants. |
They have plenty of resources. It is one of the wealthiest places in the country with a very low population density. The issue is the residents didn't want them there. |
Annnd now it's Texas DPS doing "catch and release" because they have nowhere to put them and no legal mechanism for deportation. Let's compare that with Border Patrol doing "catch and release" because the House GOP has refused funding for anywhere to put them and has refused to reform any mechanisms for deportation given asylum laws. |
But they were not arrested. Abbotts folks just stood there and watched them run away. Lots of tough talk and no action. |
