It is maddening. We have J6ers who are getting sentenced for simply walking on the Capitol grounds, and then we have these people - who are here illegally - who will likely be processed and released into the country after violently entering illegally. Only one person was arrested. He will probably be released as well.
Our country is upside down right now.

Completely agree. That scene looks like something out of a dystopian nightmare. Every one of those migrants who rushed in needs to be deported, ASAP.

Most of them have already been processed and are on their way to a neighborhood near you!!!

Way to go, Joe!!!!

Let me get this straight:
- Abbott declares Biden isn't tough enough on the border
- Abbott kicks out the border patrol and sends the TX guard to the border
- A bunch of immigrants assault the TX guard that Abbott said was going to do so much better than the border patrol, and the TX guard just lets them run away

And this is somehow Biden's fault?

Thanks to the 5th circuit (actually, the Biden admin. since they are the ones contesting the previous ruling), these violent migrants were turned over to border patrol since TX could not arrest and detain them.
And, as per Joe's policies, these migrants were processed and released into the country.

Link showing they were turned over to the feds and then released?

So why aren’t the TX authorities arresting them? That’s who is standing right there. If they aren’t prosecuted that’s on Abbott.

+100

Abbott had Texas take over the El Paso border and trumpeted about it everywhere. So if people are coming through, it's Abbott's fault.

The court has literally told them they cannot enforce this law (for now), so Abbot cannot arrest them even if he wants to.

Why do Democrats want open borders so desperately?

Weird how PP didn’t provide a link. Wonder if he just made it up?

Since when has Abbott ever cared about the courts and followed their orders to a T? Usually he appeals and fights everything he doesn't like. Seems like a lame excuse to me to blame the courts.

They don’t. That’s a right wing lie.

WTH is wrong with people here???

Like so many deadlocked conflicts whether its woman's autonomy over their own bodies , immigration, the budget or even the UN Security Council engaging in political games while millions starve, there is more obstruction than vision in this country and wider world right now.

Haiti is an extreme example of where that leads, but Jan 6th was not far off the mark of descent into that. The fact that Trump is the GOP choice for President of the United States just shows that the problems in this country run much deeper than him. It's not just vote against him and we have righted ourselves. Why is he their nominee ? THAT is what is wrong in this country.

As for the border and immigration, I know that we need immigration ( taxes on labor, birth rate ) to continue to grow our economy and support Social Security, but honestly I also don't live in Texas or Arizona or Florida and if people down there are fed up with drowning in this problem so much so that they are going to enforce the border themselves then it is CLEAR that we are not supporting them enough and that there is a real security problem down there.

You know, I love Martha's Vineyard, but the truth is the migrants that were flown there were quite quickly rounded up ( in a nice way) and " relocated" somewhere else by the good residents of MV. So, if they went NIMBY on it then everyone should stop with the hypocrisy and give the state of Texas and Az the security at the border that they are asking for

DP. Let's go back to your first bullet point. Perhaps if Joe had never overturned Trump's border protocols, and never insisted work on the border wall stop, we wouldn't be here in the first place. So yes - this is all Biden's fault.

DP. I don't know if they were released into the country, but why would you be shocked if that was the case? It's the way things work now at the border. They were definitely arrested, but IMO should have simply been immediately deported.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott also responded to Thursday's incident, saying the following:

"About the surge of illegal immigrants in El Paso:

The TX National Guard & Dept. of Public Safety quickly regained control & are redoubling the razor wire barriers.

DPS is instructed to arrest every illegal immigrant involved for criminal trespass & destruction of property."

They have plenty of resources. It is one of the wealthiest places in the country with a very low population density.
The issue is the residents didn't want them there.

Annnd now it's Texas DPS doing "catch and release" because they have nowhere to put them and no legal mechanism for deportation.

Let's compare that with Border Patrol doing "catch and release" because the House GOP has refused funding for anywhere to put them and has refused to reform any mechanisms for deportation given asylum laws.

But they were not arrested. Abbotts folks just stood there and watched them run away. Lots of tough talk and no action.
