Human error is to be expected.
The whole reason flying commercial airlines is so safe is because they take a SYSTEMS approach. The equipment and regulations are meant to catch/compensate for human error. So saying that human error caused a crash does not absolve the equipment/company. It is often the most proximal cause of an incident, but not necessarily the aspect that needs to be changed for prevention. |
If you look into differences between Airbus v Boeing, the latter relies more on traditional pilot expertise while former focuses on tech instrumentation flying. In this context, human error is going to have a higher failure rate as long as the tech functions prove whole. In other words if Airbus has made their stuff well just once, that model is going to hold up as a concept and so their planes statistically will always be more safe than the concept Boeing uses to make their planes do you follow?
When you then consider the QC failures based on corporate direction of Boeing, their planes will be statistically more unsafe! Look up the statistics and you'll find just how much more Airbus planes are than Boeings. The other consideration is cultural. Airbus is the team of Germany France Spain and to an extent the UK joining forces. Boring is 100% US. Vendors aside, the intellectual firepower of 4 countries is pretty cool. European standards will always smoke US. Just look at American food quality v Europe ie our FDA allows us to ingest Titanium Dioxide and more garbage v pretty much the developed world. Europe just works differently than the US. Our capitalist society with our pro profit healthcare and consumerism culture will always prioritize profit in a way that traditionally does not happen here sadly. |
What I’m willing to do is choose the non-Boeing plane at booking IF the other option is similar itinerary & price. If it gets changed last minute, oh well. I tried. I’m not cancelling trips entirely over this. I think this is a reasonable approach. This does not indicate anxiety or conspiracy theories or anything crazy. It means I’m a plebe who is not entirely sure what’s going on with this company and their planes. So if I have another option, I’d rather roll the dice with another plane instead of this one. |
Yea - you came here to be a smug jerkoff. Feel better now? |
I love when people blame late stage capitalism and corporate greed on DEI and diversity. Companies like Boeing aren’t unsafe bc they are hiring too many brown people, Susan. They are unsafe bc profits trump safety. And btw, I’m not a DEI fan but you are barking up the wrong tree. |

Seems like this thread didn’t age well… |
The thread is 3 days old? |
Although this thread makes me never want to fly again, I would like to say that - unlike most DCUM posters, it seems — I only ever sit in economy seats.
A recent transatlantic trip using American Airlines 787s made me love that plane and seek it out for future trips. The most comfortable experience I have ever had in steerage. |
And it’s already obsolete… |
Dumb This does nothing wrt the Max and door blow out. Plus additional issues that keep coming up. |
A Boeing plane just landed in Oregon bc it lost a panel mid flight. |

WTF |
I just came to post this. Also I have a family member who left the company 2 years ago. We also canceled an inter-generational flight for next week. Fortunately were refundable tickets. We had a backup plan already for another reason. My sister was going to be on the Alaska flight. Thank times a million she changed her plans. Naturally our entire family is following all the stories very closely. |
