For a regular traveler without a lot of money and time, how does one avoid these planes beyond not flying at all? Can't the airlines change up the actual plane at any point leading up to a flight? Even if I book a flight on a plane that is supposedly not a Boeing Max, couldn't they end up with a mechanical issue and end up subbing in any plane and passengers won't know until the day of what the plane is? Or do they not make those kinds of changes?
What I’m willing to do is choose the non-Boeing plane at booking IF the other option is similar itinerary & price. If it gets changed last minute, oh well. I tried. I’m not cancelling trips entirely over this. I think this is a reasonable approach. This does not indicate anxiety or conspiracy theories or anything crazy. It means I’m a plebe who is not entirely sure what’s going on with this company and their planes. So if I have another option, I’d rather roll the dice with another plane instead of this one.
