Wait—there’s another book about Sidwell? Was it written by a former parent or teacher?

How many (fictionalized) books about Sidwell are there?

Why anonymous author! Can make anything up! Publish with your legit name if the author can stand by the stories! Do you realize noone cares? Stay in your bubble!

Several. I’ve read at least 3. Plus many non-functional.

Also a number of mentions and plotlines in film. Even Tyler Perry (Queen Sugar) where it’s portrayed in an extremely flattering way

Non-fiction not function

There’s one every few years. The last one was profiled by WaPo in “Sidwell Friends’s secretive traditions revealed in new satiric novel”

I don’t think this newest one is coherent enough to get a profile but who knows. Sidwell has a draw. It doesn’t seem to be written by a native speaker. I am not sure I buy the alumni story since the writing is just so full of typos and incorrect English usage

There’s a rumor it’s a Maret parent who either went to Sidwell or has some connection

Tyler Perry had nothing to do with Queen Sugar. The show was written (screen play) and produced by Ava DuVernay, and it ran on Oprah Winfrey’s network.

Hmmmm! It did feel like the Maret clone got a little more attention than deserved.

Anonymous wrote:I’m trying to read it right now and the writing is truly abysmal. Got to page 60 and not sure I can continue. Verb tense mismatches, incorrect word choices, clunky writing at an early collegiate level…where was her editor? There may be a story here but this “writer” should not quit her day job.

weird - does the publisher not have an editor?!

Anonymous wrote:I bought the book. I thought it would be a fun summer read like Prep, which I read many years ago, but it's pretty tedious and all of the characters, including the protagonist, Aki, are awful. I'll probably leave it in a little free library.

Charlotte Simmons way better and almost premonish.
Oh and actually published and lots of revenue and awards.

It’s almost as if the writer wrote the book about the type of people in this forum…..

Author is Emma Sasaki. Very very brief googling didn't turn up much except listings of this book, which is her first. I would not be surprised if it's a pen name. Her bio says she lives in the DC suburbs and attended "a Quaker private school."

Honestly, the last 4 years of DEI has been shambolic enough - there is no need for a book to relive and further navel gaze -

What is in dire need instead is an eye roll, a reset button.

All of America needs JR to step out of the shower and the last 4 years was just a dream- including Israel shenanigans

It is not a rumor. It's a fact. A Maret parent who attended Sidwell.

Sounds incredibly dull
