Author is Emma Sasaki. Very very brief googling didn't turn up much except listings of this book, which is her first. I would not be surprised if it's a pen name. Her bio says she lives in the DC suburbs and attended "a Quaker private school."

But Sidwell is a private Quaker school and not a Quaker private school.
