Why do parents have such an issue with DEIB

DEI is all about low expectations.
You are supposed to have compassion for misbehavior but don’t expect black kids to come on time to class because expectations of punctuality are racist. Teachers are sick of DEI in public and private schools

+100. When I was growing up, my white classmates made fun of my food. Now, my children’s white classmates ask me to teach them how to cook it. Of course it was traumatic to be racially excluded. But my children’s white classmates are not my old white classmates. Just because they’re the same race doesn’t mean they’re the same people. To say so would be… racist

Furthermore, I should add, as much as I want apologies from those who hurt me, taking it out on kids today by saying they should apologize for what happened in my adult past isn’t right

Probably because they see evidence of it in their own schools? A lot of people tried these schools and pulled their kids out based on what they actually observed. But keep pretending that people are just majorly inconveniencing themselves and switching schools for not reason.

I’m not against DEIB but how it has been implemented and prioritised in my kids’ schools over issues which matter more to me or in ways that cause division and drama.

In my DS’s US, we have had problems with getting the school to address concerns regarding poor teaching. With one, it got to the point where parents had to band together and force the issue. With another, the administration continue to try to avoid the problems. Throughout all of this, there is a constant barrage of DEIB newsletters, invitations to discussion groups and other initiatives which makes it feel like they prioritise DEIB over very real academic problems (which obviously affect all students regardless of skin colour).

In my DD’s MS, I think the intentions are good but clearly younger children aren’t as able to handle the concepts and it can lead to bullying and intolerance. When she was in 5th and 6th grades, it was exasperating. Kids that age tend to see things as black and white (no pun intended). She and I had battles as she and her friends would ‘brand’ other kids as racists, misogynists and homophobes over stupid thoughtless comments that typical immature 11 year old boys and girls might make. Kids would be accused of cultural misappropriation over dumb things which clearly showed they didn’t understand the concept.

This, exactly. I will never driving home a carpool of 5th grade boys after a sports practice, and mentioning that I had to stop at Sherwin Williams because I had mistakenly purchased the wrong shade of white paint.

At our DMV private that pushes DEI down our throats, one student stated in health class — where the MS students were learning about healthy food choices — that using the terms “red meat” (a la beef) and “white meat” (a la chicken) was “racist”

I do hope you are joking but I am so done with the DEI madness at the elementary school level and at college. Both of my kids are overseas for college and grad work. But I do see the tide turning. Test optional is starting to be reversed; the amounts of money that colleges and even public universities (Michigan at $30M of taxpayer monies) have spent on DEI administrators is coming to light., It's yet another american eduational fad now phasing out

Because a major political organization decided the only way they could win elections was through lies, untruths, and deception. Dividing people and sowing chaos helps them too. They’ve been doing it since the civil rights movement and this is just their latest, greatest attempt to continue in that vein. A good percentage of you all fall for it every time, but you know, why not make America great again?

Still, nine entire pages later. Nobody has provided any proof or detailed explanation of how DEIB is ruining your life.

There are lots of fabrications that can't be proven, and "it's getting shoved down our throats," but not a single real justification for the hate.

This never happened, but there are a lot of parents that will believe this. People can't be those simple.
