They don't eat because the food is unappealing for adults. A kids party with kids food means the adults will juts pass and eat before or after. |
I've never hosted a party where adults don't also eat. If adults don't eat it's usually because the food isn't good or it a menu exclusively for kids (pizza, nuggets or hotdogs). Look at the suggestions on this site for sheetpan pancakes, leftover eggs, eggos etc. That is not appetizing. |
They’re also usually at random non meal times. I rarely ate when I had to go to kid parties. I need a piece of pizza at 3pm just because it’s there. I can go a few hours without food. |
| Hi, OP. Sounds great, and I’m sorry about your job. You did say that this was mostly family, right? Unless your family is horrible and they shouldn’t be if you’re inviting them over, call your mom and favorite sister and ask them to pick or bring some extras or make a quick egg casserole. Family is not just going to sit there and hover around other kids - they are going to eat. If I were your sister I might grumble to myself for a second and then totally do it and be happy to do so. |

OP, this sounds like the loveliest party. I WOULD do sausage ... that keeps well in a chafing dish or a low oven.
I DO think your estimate is fine ... lots of kids will only take a couple of bites of food, and some adults won't eat at all. Good luck getting a new job, but in the meantime, enjoy this rockin' party. |
| OP - please come back and update us on how it went! |
What the guck? |
That’s what I’m saying. |
| This is a nice idea for a party for young kids. I’m interested if the parents ate. When we have had pizza, parents eat. We got a bunch of other food once, like cheese, fruit, veggie tray, etc and parents didn’t eat. |
| Come on, OP! How was it? Was it adorable? I bet it was adorable. |
| Just tell people you’re making pancakes and ask them to bring savory sides (eg bacon, ham, sundried tomatoes, salads, or anything related). I’d LOVE to be asked to bring something specific v trying to figure out what you might need. |

It sounds lovely, and I hope the party went well.
We've done parties for similar numbers involving the full spread, and that was a LOT. Pancake birthday seems more doable. Please let us know how it went, any lessons learned, etc! |
| My husband has been talking about buying a laser cutter pancake machine. It will laser cut pancake shapes. There are also pancake engravers out there. This is what I get for marrying a Silicon Valley born and raised guy. |

Hello! Op here.
We had the best time. The kids decorated aprons and then we made DD a huge stack of pancakes and sang to her. Everyone ate. We ended up making 150 regular pancakes and 60 tiny pink funfetti ones for the kids. We had 18 regular ones left and 2 little ones. The coffee was 3/4 gone, mimosas were totally gone, a little apple juice left. I cut up 1 large watermelon, 2 cantaloupes, 2 honey dew melons, and 2 pineapples (which were actually all ripe and great- I was pleasantly surprised) and I'd say 25% of the fruit was left. I got so many compliments on the the theme and time. Most people were heading to church, errands, etc afterwards. Lots said it was so nice to wake up and have somewhere to head for breakfast. It was actually funny to see- most adults just went for it and were making these very elaborate stacks of pancakes like one pancake, layer of whipped cream, layer of strawberries, another pancake, another layer of toppings with sprinkles at the very top
Will add pics below. I know this is DCUMland so don't judge my house which we recently bought and is largely original from 1964...and now will be staying original even longer bc of my job ugh. |
Guess I didn't get a pic of the actual pancakes or the coffee station whoops
