Did Christian homophobia come from a mistranslation of the Bible?

Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

This.

Jesus offers all of us redemption from our sin. We all sin, every day, sometimes intentionally.

Like the people who judge others over who they love?

We are not judging. We are holding to Biblical beliefs

Excuses to judge others.

I’m sorry you feel so personally triggered by this. I am not judging your homosexual. I am saying that I am a sinner, as are you, and we both need the redemption of Jesus. Our specific sins are between us and God.

And BTW, the laws that God gives us to live by are ultimately for our own good. Sin of any kind - including sexual- ultimately harms us.

Homosexuality doesn’t harm people.

People say their sin doesn’t harm people, because they want to continue to sin.

Do people who commit adultery harm people?

What about people who have sex before marriage?

We might say they do not, but God says they do. We aren’t God and we don’t make the rules.

If you have the opinion that homosexuality, adultery, and sex outside of marriage aren’t harmful, you don’t have to become a Christian. Find a religion that says those things are ok. Then you can do whatever you want and feel ok about yourself.

Again, you're saying homosexuality is a "sin" when Jesus never said this.

Jesus did condemn sex outside of marriage, thus it's really clear that he thinks adultery and (probably) premarital sex are bad.

But again, he didn't say homosexuality is a sin, and it's really an open question as to what he would have a said about a homosexual relationship within a marriage.

If you need Biblical authority, you need to go pick on the divorcees and millennials living with their partners.

How does homosexuality harm people?

Or sex before marriage?

Obviously adulterous hurts the spouse.

Are Christians going to stop trying to hurt LGBTQ people?

Sexual immorality isn’t love, it’s sin.

Homosexuality isn’t a sin.

It’s considered sexual immorality, just like adultery, sex outside of marriage, etc.

What is sexual immorality?

https://www.gotquestions.org/sexual-immorality.html

The following are some common objections to God’s commands against sexual immorality:

1. It’s not wrong if we love each other. The Bible makes no distinction between “loving” and “unloving” sexual relations. The only biblical distinction is between married and unmarried people. Sex within marriage is blessed (Genesis 1:28); sex outside of marriage is “fornication” or “sexual immorality” (1 Corinthians 7:2–5).

2. Times have changed, and what was wrong in biblical times is no longer considered sin. Most of the passages condemning sexual immorality also include evils such as greed, lust, stealing, etc. (1 Corinthians 6:9–10; Galatians 5:19–21). We have no problem understanding that these other things are still sin. God’s character does not change with culture’s opinion (Malachi 3:6; Numbers 23:19; Hebrews 13:8).

3. We’re married in God’s eyes. The fallacy of this idea is that the God who created marriage in the first place would retract His own command to accommodate what He has called sin. God declared marriage to be one man and one woman united for life (Mark 10:6–9). The Bible often uses the imagery of a wedding and a covenant marriage as a metaphor to teach spiritual truth (Matthew 22:2; Revelation 19:9). God takes marriage seriously, and His “eyes” see immorality for what it is, regardless of how cleverly we have redefined it.

4. I can still have a good relationship with God because He understands. Proverbs 28:9 says, “If one turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.” We fool ourselves when we think that we can stubbornly choose sin and God does not care. First John 2:3–4 contains a serious challenge for those who persist in this line of thinking: “We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. Whoever says, ‘I know him,’ but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.”

Hebrews 13:4 makes God’s expectation for His children crystal clear: “Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.” Sexual immorality is wrong. The blood of Jesus can cleanse us from every type of impurity when we repent and receive His forgiveness (1 John 1:7–9). But that cleansing means our old nature and all its practices, including sexual immorality, are put to death (Romans 6:12–14; 8:13). Ephesians 5:3 says, “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.”

pp, why do you say homosexuality isn’t sinful?

It’s not immoral. And it’s not a sin. No matter how much you try to twist the words from some old timey book.

You don’t have to believe the Bible or be a Christian. Those who identify as Christian, believe the Bible is God’s word.

You don’t have to have anything to do with Christianity, you don’t have to pray or attend church. Therefore your opinion is only important to yourself and has no meaning to Christians.

The Bible defines sexual immorality, you don’t follow the Bible or believe in God- why do you care what Christians do or think? Are you worried about other people’s religions because you don’t like them? Ok. Don’t like them. But you don’t define Christianity at all. You can completely avoid the Bible and live your life.

You don’t define Christianity either.

Agreed, God and His word, the Bible, does.

So you don’t get to decide what is a “sin” or not. And you don’t get to judge people based on your (mis)interpretation of the bible.

DP. Stop with the blanket stereotypes about Christians already. Lots of us have been arguing in support of gay people. I guess that doesn't fit with your own agenda of hate, though. There are anti-LGBTQ Christians, and then there are anti-Christian bigots with gross generalizations like yours, and both are wrong.

The way you interpret the Bible is not the way established religious denominations interpret the Bible.

You don’t get to change their interpretation of the Bible. If anyone is massively out of their lane, it’s you.

No one is hurting glbtq people; religious people are just practicing their faith, according to the faith. You and others don’t like that, and instead of respecting religious differences, have decided to attack those people and claim they are hurting you and others.

How are people who attend their church and practice their religion hurting you?

You know Muslims execute gay men, right? Hang gay men in public ceremonies. Throw blindfolded gay men off buildings. Those glbtq men are being murdered by an actual religion.

What harm have Christians perpetrated onto you?

Iran publicly hangs man on homosexuality charges

The Islamic Republic of Iran publicly hanged a 31-year-old Iranian man after he was found guilty of charges related to violations of Iran’s anti-gay laws, according to the state-controlled Iranian Students’ News Agency.
The unidentified man was hanged on January 10 in the southwestern city of Kazeroon based on criminal violations of “lavat-e be onf” – sexual intercourse between two men, as well as kidnapping charges, according to ISNA. Iran’s radical sharia law system prescribes the death penalty for gay sex.

“The LGBT community in Iran has lived in terror for the last 40 years,” said Alireza Nader, CEO of Washington, DC-based research and advocacy organization New Iran. “Next time Foreign Minister Zarif speaks in Washington, the host and audience should ask him why his regime is one of the top executioner of gays in the world.

Are you worried about other people’s religions because you don’t like them? Ok. Don’t like them. But you don’t define Christianity at all. You can completely avoid the Bible and live your life.

Because religious people are trying to hurt others because of their twisted, judgmental beliefs.

Christians haven’t decided what God calls sin. We have no choice in that.

God’s word comes from God.

Stay in your lane. You can deal with your own personal sexual orientation however you choose. But you don’t get to have an opinion about others. Or actively try to hurt them.

Hundreds of these horrific photos are on the internet. Muslims don’t like gay men. They actively hunt them down and execute them.

What is your experience with being hurt by Christians in America? A Christian physically attacked you? Were they arrested? Christians have tried to burn your house down? Physically stopped you from entering their church and called you slurs?

People who practice their religion according to their religious beliefs aren’t hurting anyone.

In America, if someone is hurting anyone, an adult, a child, a pet, call the police and have the police intervene and investigate and have the person arrested.

Posting online that you are being hurt and all glbtq people are being hurt because you can’t change how their hundreds if not thousands of year old religious views sexual sin is just moronic.

It’s not like they say oh ok, commit adultery, have sex with anyone you want outside of marriage, that’s acceptable, but glbtq people are not acceptable. Glbt are not being singled out as the only people who are committing sexual immorality. You feel like you are being persecuted when you are not. You do not have to be a Christian and you do not have to submit to God. You can live your life any legal way you choose.

Currently, by opposing gay marriage, pushing conversion therapy, and encouraging violence against gay people. Some even pushed to outright outlaw it in certain countries (death penalty in Uganda).

In the past, there was obviously more blatant oppression and violence.

Jesus didn’t come to love everyone and tell everyone he loves them even if they sin.

He came to offer salvation to sinners- all of us.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11 ESV

Right. They’ve done much worse.

Someone who hates Christians definitely should tell them how to be Christian.

Why do you hate Christians? What have Christians done?

What does that have to do with Christians hurting gay people?

I never said all Christians are anti-LGBTQ.
