Not true. ECNL does allow its boys teams to be second teams. You just have to get their ok. |
No they don't. Ask PDA and FC Delco. |
We all drive Teslas now, TYVM |
I don't know where people are seeing that PDA and FC Delco have been kicked out of ECNL but that seems to be pure rumor. |
| I guess the CEO lost his first big battle! |
Did anyone hear further on this ? |

All I heard is that Loudoun chose not to leave ECNL on the boys side as that would have resulted in the girls side being removed from ECNL. Apparently to be in ECNL you have to put both your boys and girls programs into ECNL. I don’t know enough to validate but that was floating around. That being said, it wouldn’t surprise me as some would argue that the Loudoun girls programs are stronger than boys; which is why the boys have changed their coaching structure to elevate DP to a Pre-ECNL slot in order to better prep the top teams coming up through the age ranks.

| why not just add mls next to pyramid tiers for boys side? |
| I think ECNL won’t allow this - in the end it’s a business, unfortunately. Ever see Coke and Pepsi side by side? Rare. |

The issue is ECNL will insist on both the girls and boys teams to be the top teams. MLS Next will insist that their team is the top team. There are some clubs that have both but those are not new. I do not think either would allow this going forward. They both probably will be squeezing the clubs that have both to make a move.
The equation changes all the time. If GA was closer to ECNL then I think you would see switches but right now (today) GA is not close to ECNL so you have to pick -- which side do you favor -- girls or boys. Maybe someday it is closer. There has to be a way to pull it off. I think if an ECNL club merged with a non ecnl clud that had mls next it is possible to keep it if the club did not list either team as the top boys team. But who knows. |
Yeah they used to but it would have to be an extenuating circumstance (eg FC Dallas) or the club was already grandfathered in (Solar, Bethesda, etc.) |
is steak back on the menu now that birth year changes incoming |
I can’t speak to the girls side, but it is astonishing to me how an area the size of Loudoun, with all the kids and good facilities, spits out mediocre teams. They are exactly like McLean now. Well, not that bad, but close. |
