City of D.C. going to 1 day a week telework

Pretty ludicrous if Bowser thinks killing telework is going to be a big salvation for DC. Sorry but most public servants are being paid anywhere near enough to eat out every day, when getting even a mediocre sandwich or salad and a drink, after all of the overinflated prices and sleazy surcharges will run $20. Most people will bring a lunch instead.

Work isn't where you are, it's what you do. Many jobs these days don't depend at all on being in a specific place, particularly office work. Others do. A blanket demand makes little sense. If it's a matter of remote workers not getting their work done, that's a management problem as much as it's an employee problem. And even there, we have a crime problem because of MPD not doing its job.

I guess it's too hard to come up with a more innovative way to repurpose those buildings.

How are the workers subsidizing commercial building owners given DC owns many of its buildings and otherwise are on long term leases long since executed?

And tickets. Federal government workers pay tickets.

People just don't feel safe. Mayor, MPD, Council, AGs, Judges and everyone else all need to step up and accept this reality and realize they need to make changes.

Stop crying. Quit your job and stay home if you're scared. Or shut up and get to the office.

Piss off, dickweed. You don't get to tell anyone what to do.

Ignore. Pp is the angry unemployed person.

Feds should all be back at least 3 days a week as well.

I'd prefer that DC offers carrots, not sticks. This reminds me of the people in DC who want to make parking as hard as possible to limit driving. Instead, they should incentivize people to take other forms of transport with safe, clean, convenient public transport, speed bumps, lighting, clear signage for safe walkable roads etc. We should want workers to want to return - ensuring downtown is pleasant and safe would be a start. Also, the public transport to get there. Hey, that ALSO benefits me as a DC resident. If the city is giving these return to work orders they should also be working on those things - not just counting on a return of workers to do the job for them.

= no longer subsidizing "free" parking. Which, as it turns out, is very effective for getting people to choose transportation modes that are not driving themselves in their own car by themselves.

Dumb post not at all based in reality, just talking points pulled out of your ass you think might convince other idiots.

I agree 100%. Sorry. WFH is not as productive as being in the office.

Sweetie, don’t you think your time would be better spent on your job search instead of railing on DCUM? You can do this.

You should ask the mayor how installing the new fares has come.

If you work at a federal agency and aren’t yet back to half time in office, it is coming. The goal is for all federal agencies in DC to be back to pre-COVID levels of telework by next fall.

Posters like this have been saying this for over a year.

Why?

Why?

Because like it or not the District will not survive without a sustained federal workforce presence. It will also set an example and help private sector firms get greater return to offices numbers.

Otherwise the tax base of cities disappears and the US economy takes a hit. All about the economic reality of how America is set-up. You are not going to be able to convert significant amounts of commercial real estate to condos and if that is attempted you won’t find buyers.
