You don't comprehend there are wide variances of standards, rigor and merit between degree programs at the same university? You right wingers routinely make fun of humanities degrees for being so easy they're worthless, while a STEM bachelor's at the same university are much more intense, of course. Or a public policy master's from Kennedy School at Harvard is obviously far easier to get into and far easier to finish than a four-year MD program at Harvard Medical School. Rufo sought a shortcut degree from the easiest department at Harvard, the open enrollment extension school. $40,000 to buy a "Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies" online degree. Then he purposely misinterpreted the degree to confer the prestige, status, and accomplishment the much more selective and rigorous programs project. It's akin to stolen valor. Guy is a clown.

Oh my gosh, are you not paying attention. Literally everyone is talking about him on X and forums like this. He is featured on the news. Heck, we are talking about him right now! He’s loving this rest assured.

And the conversation is currently whether or not his Harvard degree needs the worded with extension, which hits the subconscious as a huge guess what he attended Harvard in a capacity. It will become murky, and all people will remember is that he had gone to Harvard. Without this “scandal” no one knew who he was, and no one knew that he attended Georgetown and Harvard.

What you don’t seem to understand is the universe of people on X and forums like this is incredibly small. It’s not reflective of wider population at all. It’s not even “internet famous.”

No one really uses X anymore, really. And those who are left are just in a weird echo chamber arguing amongst themselves. Kind of like this place, only maybe on a slightly smaller scale.

Neither platform is particularly influential.

He got his degree from Harbor, who cares if it was through extension, which is designed for working professionals? It’s the same place. Of course if you get your masters, you tell people about it that doesn’t mean you’re seeking attention.

Um, students receiving their master's degree through the extension school are instructed explicitly on how to list it on their docs, in apps, etc. So yeah, not following directions here is because the recipient wants to seek attention.

Just take the L here. All this is doing is making Harvard look worse. The information about the degree on their own website shows how ridiculous this is; “Yes if you graduate from HES, you are a Harvard Alumni!” But then also trying to throw in the fact that you should specify that it’s the extension school and not actually Harvard.

It’s a blatant cash grab by the University to try and sell it’s prestige to people willing to pay while also trying to keep it’s “elite” reputation intact. If they don’t want people to use these programs as a way to bolster their credentials in a “less than honest way”, then maybe the school shouldn’t market what they’re selling in a “less than honest way”.

All it’s doing is making you look like a snob and further exposing how much of a joke “elite” schools have become.
