Trump warns that immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country

So what kind of immigration do you all support? It sounds like you think restricting immigration is xenophobic?

Sounds like you are worried about the US having fewer people of European descent in the future. People on the left or not worried about that. Why are YOU so concerned about it?

It makes you wonder if it's really about immigrants at all. They can't be so bad if his own family consists of immigrants. But then again, all of his focus is on the southern border.

European immigrants clearly aren't a problem then. Just brown ones.

I don’t think he hates immigrants. He just wants them to come here legally and in a controlled fashion.

“Poisoning the blood” is not a legal distinction. It is as racist as racism can be.

I don’t know a single Democrat who supports unrestricted migration to this country. We’re just not as triggered by photos of non-white migrants as those on the right are.

I don’t spend all day thinking about it like you guys do so forgive me if I don’t have a researched list of restrictions to serve up to you. But I do think that the whole immigration system needs to be overhauled—that reform is long overdue—and that it will require bipartisan action, something that is unlikely to happen anytime soon. I don’t believe in quick fixes, especially those promised by Donald Trump. TBH, right now I’m more focused on preserving our democracy than worrying about our borders.

For me personally, I prefer a more orderly induction into the country, people should not be sneaking across the borders illegally. People here legally should be entitled to services from the government if they are paying into the system, so I am not for people being here illegally and somehow getting services from the government without being taxpayers. But beyond that, I don't really care.

Seasonal work visas so ag workers can go back and forth across the border without danger or paying cartel coyotes
More temporary worker visas
Mandatory use of eVerify by American employers
It's more effective to punish the American employers than to play wack-a-mole with the laborers

How do ILLEGAL immigrants poison the blood as opposed to legal immigrants?

No one supports that, including this president and administration, so your premise is flawed.

The fact is, there is more money being spent at the border, more interdictions, more apprehensions, more deportations. So to suggest that there is somehow support for open boarders is pure right wing fantasy.

As to the shift if culture in the coming decades, it will be what naturally evolves. I don't see people complaining now about the rise of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell or other "cultural" food establishments as they did when they were first created and came into the national consciousness. Our country is a melting pot, by design and frankly, we are better for it. Imagine being stuck with eggs, chicken, salt and ham as a base cuisine as it was 150 years ago. Imagine having life with the various music and dance inputs over the past 100 years - we would all still be doing The Charleston or something lame like that. Imagine not having the scientific advancements as a result of immigrants having the freedom to discover in the US over the past 100 years.

What a sad world that would be. Just because you and your family are here now, doesn't mean things will fall of a cliff as you are predicting. Do you know how I know? Because the rhetoric you are expressing has been repeated time and time again, whether it was "the Jews," the eastern Eurpoeans "the Pols" "the Czecks" the south Americans, the Mexicans, the irish, the Italians, the Hmongs, you name it, they have been castigated, mostly by white protestants, but generally by anyone who is already here. And yet, generally speaking, our country is better, more diverse and more culturally enriching than any other on the planet.

That should be celebrated, not condemned.

Legal immigrants are vetted and you know who is coming into the country. Illegal immigrants are not vetted and could be criminals, terrorists, etc.

This is a quote from the other time Trump used the word “poison”:

"Nobody has any idea where these people are coming from," Trump said of migrants crossing the southern border in a September interview with The National Pulse, a right-wing website. "And we know they come from prisons. We know they come from mental institutions and centers, islands we know they're terrorists. Nobody has ever seen anything like we're witnessing right now. It is a very sad thing for our country. It's poisoning the blood of our country. It's so bad and people are coming in with disease, people are coming in with — with every possible thing that you can have."

So I think he’s talking about diseases and criminals poisoning the blood of the country. I don’t think he’s talking about race mixing like Hitler did in Mein Kampf.

Keep on believing that.

Of course it is but those employers profit from undocumented labor so it won’t happen.
