someone at UMD is having a field day on this thread and is really delusional that UMD is anything but a party school |
All I know is if my kid doesn't get into UVa, we'll have to find another equally good undergraduate program and UMd isn't even an option, not even as a safety school. In Maryland I'd consider the Naval Academy, St. John's maybe, but after that your in-state options run out fairly quickly. |
If you're not going to be a producer as a graduate and you aren't good at math...I wouldnt go to Umd. Too many hard subjects there...Uva is good for grammar...reading and sitting around arguing about social studies. |
If you don't get into Uva you probably won't get into Umd either ...especially out of state. And you can forget about the Naval Academy or Hopkins. |
Umd doesn't have a mascot "Wahoo" based on it's ability to drink...Uva is the party school...Thats one of the reasons it's graduates haven't produced any tangable results!!! |
Umd grad here...grew up in Potomac and going to College Park was like being a million miles away (in a good way actually). I never came home, I had too much fun at school and alot of my friends were from the Baltimore and NY/NJ area. Alot of smart kids with great senses of humor and a real entrepreneurial spirit. One of the best things about UMD though is that a very high percentage of people I knew that went away for college had to come back home for work. You can't get too many big jobs in Charlottesville or State College etc... I still see many of my college freinds and I get to go to all the games I want. My family has a tradition of getting to many games and it is sometimes the only time we see each other. Your alma mater is always nearby for support and nastalgia. Its also great to beat Duke and UNC at Comcast in the dead of winter when nothing else fun is going on. |
College Park is a boring school in a non-descript location. If not for the games, no one would ever want to go back there. U.Va. is a national treasurer. Chapel Hill is a great college town. Duke is gorgeous. Clemson has a fine engineering program. Georgia Tech is in a great location right in Atlanta.
College Park offers none of this. Its very name is a misnomer. It should be "University Dump." |
Funny but very mean pp |
Thats because Charlottesville is so much prettier than College Park. |
I posted that. We are MD residents and I am so bummed that UMD is our state school. I went UVA for grad school and it was wonderful. We are saving and hoping for scholarships for an out of state school. |
This is silly. National recruiters come to UVA to hire graduates. It's not a good state school, like UM, it's a national school. People don't go to UVA to find a job in Cville, they go to UVA as a springboard to greater opportunities everywhere in the country, if not the world. You make UM sound like a glorified community college, and you don't even realize it. |
Nothing wrong with UMD...but if you're coming from Potomac...you could do better. |
UVA is not a big school so moving to VA for UVA is foolish. |
5 stars |
I feel sorry for the poor students murdered at Uva and Vtech. Umd has done a good job avoiding student murder and I hope they can continue. Its really weird how nobody from Uva has invented anything useful...They can do a mean real estate settlement though! |
