Marylanders: Did you regret not choosing Virginia when it came time to apply to college?

You forgot the muppets, frequent flyer programs, linear programming and pulse doppler radar. Without UMD the country would be completely different. Without Uva, nobody would notice! |

UVA is nore like a private university than a big state school. It's a huge party. So is William & Mary. As a Virginia resident - Northen VA - it's time to change the funding status.
2009-10 UVA -15,500:67%VA, 27%out of state,6%foreign. on campus out of state $43plus..in state $21.2 Maryland-37,000:64%MD. on campus out of state $37.6 Johns Hopkins $53,400. So a kid from MD gets a beautiful campus at UVA and spends $10 less than at a private school. A VA kid who doesn't get into UVA spends $32,000 more annually to go private. UVA does give athletic scholarships NOT based on financial need so .... |

Not much difference here Umd has more Ceo/Lawyer/Politictian/ Tv personalities/Actors/Sports personalities/Pulitzers than Uva. The thing that vaults Umd over Uva is the sheer genius that has graduated. Umd grads Invented the Muppets, Seinfeld, The wire, Google, Pulse doppler radar, Linear programming, the jumbotron, the universal price code, the octane system, launched sirius satelite, the boondocks, broke watergate, created frequent flyer systems, created Underarmour. I don't see where anybody from Uvava has done anything of note that is known nationwide and effects peoples lives. Other than maybe the horrible murder that took place on the lacrosse team but that is not the kind of national notoriety they should want. Also Umd has 37 team national championships...Uva 17. Umd has 4 nobel laureates on faculty Uva ZERO, Umd has 7 pulitzer winners on faculty...Uva 1. this is why Umd is ahead of Uva in the World University rankings. |

| Don't feel bad though...Umd has more incredible contributions to US society than all the ACC schools put together and it's not even close. I forgot artificial pancreas, the miniturized insulin pump and the internal defibulator, Curb your enthusiasm, etc...son ..and so forth. |

| Pp, I was just observing that is Umd ever got all those graduates together what a star studded and interesting group it would be. From some of the greatest inventors, innovators, entrepeneurs, hollywood moguls, actors, creative geniuses. I think Jim Henson is the greatest of all. The sheer genius of doing all that with puppets and enriching all children rich/poor/with or without functioning families is breathtaking. |
