If the driver was the little brother, maybe he was the most sober? Or had the least level of maturity and wasn't able to say no.

The driver is a Marshall student and he is 17.

Teens are resilient. I also hope they are ok or will recover.

The driver is going to jail for a long time

If he was in Arlington, he wouldn't go to jail at all. Remember that kid who drove drunk and killed someone, 1 month before he turned 18, and the PROSECUTOR, not the judge, wouldn't agree to jail time. OMFG.

That kid comes from a rich influential family in McLean.

There are kids getting into trouble all over the region. A teenager was found deceased at Wakefield HS in Arlington over the weekend.

Source? I don't see this on ArlNow.

The articles say he died of a heart attack and its not narcotics related. So this seems a bit of a jump to say he was in trouble.

and it wasn't even at the school?! It was across the street. Could have been at his house? Not sure why the OP framed it the way they did.

Did not have a license?!?

Didn't we just discuss teens driving with no license recently on DCUM?

Many people here subornly refused to believe it happens in this area. Apparently, it does happen in this area.

In order to get a license in Virginia before 18, you need to take driver's ed. A lot of kids can't afford that, so yes, they drive without a license.

Democrats just re-elected radical Steve Descano to FFX Commonwealth attorney, defying the WaPo’s endorsement of a moderate democrat challenger.

Descano does not believe in any jail time for any criminal. He will either dismiss this case or at most, move for light probation. The Washington Post opposed Descano for good reason; he is a radical extremist.

That is not ... accurrate.

It is not accurate

And no Republican is fit for the job none zero nadda

Have you or any family members been a victim of crime in FFX County?

Do we know the teen didn't have a license. It was a 17 year old right? Did the teen have a permit?

That didn’t have any impact on the prosecutors decision to try him as an adult or not. That prosecutor has never charged a juvenile as an adult since she took office.

The judge certainly have sentenced him to more time in juvenile detention than the 1 year he got. But he was never going to go away for long being charged as a juvenile

This is all so sad. Teens have such poor judgment.

My heart goes out to the parents. I always assume the best until proven otherwise. They likely were vigilant and had built up trust so if a teen says he/she is going to a friends house you believe it. Sure you check up on things as you build trust, but at some point you have to assume you have a kid who makes decent decisions even if the frontal cortex isn't fully developed.

This legit drives me nuts. The originally tweet (or whatever posts on X are called) calls it a fatal overdose without the facts. Dragging this poor kid through the mud (because you know folks know who this is) and it gets back to their family when they are undergoing a horrible tragedy. At least the police corrected him.

It's usually offered at public schools as PE.

Marshall got an email:

Dear Marshall Family,

Early this morning, we were made aware of a single vehicle accident that involved five of our students and two students from nearby schools. At this time, we are still gathering details and are waiting for news of those who are in the hospital.

Students are slowly hearing the names of the teens who were involved. Our psychologist and social worker, along with our school counselors are available to provide support. We will be sharing more details when we are able. If your child is in need of support right now, please have them come to Student Services or let us know and we will seek them out.

If you or your child needs support after hours, FCPS has the support of the CrisisLink Regional Hotline at 703-527-4077 or text “NEEDHELP” to 85511.

On behalf of all members of our school faculty and staff, our thoughts are with family and friends during this difficult time.
