Canada’s three major cities, which are the only relevant ones in a discussion about crime, are all like 20% white. Something like 75% of Toronto residents are foreign born. |
Apples to oranges. Cherry pick your data all you want. Japan is a country, not three cities. |

Good thing Japan gets along so well with its expansionist, army-building neighbor, China
Safety involves more than just your next door neighbors |
|
^didn't mean to use “neighbors” twice
The point is that safety from individual predators walking around your neighborhood is not the whole picture |
Absolutely true. My sister lives there and was forced out of her job at 6 months pregnant because her boss said it was shameful for her to be working in her condition. (This was only 5 years ago.) Her husband, on the other hand, got a fat raise on the birth of his child because he would need the extra money. Is DCUM really ok with women being fired for pregnancy and male coworkers getting unmerited raises because their wives had babies? Is DCUM really ok with no ADHD meds or in-school help for their SN kids, just segregated schools? Is DCUM ok with their kids having to clean their school and mothers (only mothers, because none of them work) being de facto forced into volunteer work there? Draconian drug policies? |
Yes they do. Look up untouchables. |
This is a VERY romanticized version of the history of Japan. Are you in any way aware that it was at one point an Empire?! |
You realize that this is true in the vast majority of the US? |
How are we counting a “city” here? |
Actually, it’s 55% foreign born, and 67% of the “visible minority population” (their term) is Asian. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_Toronto FWIW, Toronto’s murder rate is comparable to NYC (was higher in 2018). |
“Near shootings constantly?” Pretty much anywhere that isn’t the roughest parts of Baltimore, Chicago, New Orleans or St. Louis. It’s a big country out there. You should go see it sometime. |

| Considering that most people posting on DCUM have health insurance/can afford health care and will never experience gun violence, this just seems like a flex. Like some sort of bragging rights that they can pick up and move across the world, and to a place where no one will like them. They have the money, the freedom, and the tight nuclear family, so they can do it and they (think they) will be just fine. Americans who actually can't afford medical care and are at risk of gun violence can't move to Japan. |
Not me - I’m fine with an expat community |
LOL but I'm asking if DCUM is ok with it. The point is that a clean well-run society like Japan necessarily has standards and shaming. No "do whatever as long as it doesn't hurt me." In Japan the police can search your person for no other reason than "something was just stolen in this area." And you better believe they engage in profiling. The doctor providing the "Free" healthcare will scold you severely if you are even approaching overweight. You all cool with that? |
