Bride killed hours after ceremony

Unless more info comes out showing otherwise, nobody is at fault here but the drunk driver. Even plowing into a regular car at 65mph can kill someone.

I also don’t think golf carts are safe on regular streets and I hate when people drive around in them. But that’s not really relevant to what happened here.

But this thread has devolved into defining what are safe activities for travel. Clearly, the only safe travel is no travel at all. Or if you must, you should walk, very slowly, to wherever you are going and only on sunny, cloud-free days. Being safe should be the primary concern, and only 100% safe activities should be permitted.

NP. And if something bad still happens to you, we’ll need to know what you were wearing.

So Jamie Lee Komoroski said she did nothing wrong when resisting arrest. Meanwhile, the innocent bride is dead and the bridegroom broke both legs, his back and also suffered a brain injury.

If OP had a "vendetta" in describing the irresponsible driver, frankly I don't blame her.

Drunk drivers need to be put away for a long time. No apologies, especially in 2023 when there are Ubers/Lyfts, etc. at the touch of a screen.

Excuses in order:

It was a mistake. The driver shouldn't spend his life in jail for a simple mistake.
There was no intent. He couldn't understand the consequences of exceeding the speed limit slightly.
Why are they allowing people to drive golf carts on the road? Roads are dangerous and golf carts and pedestrians should stay away from them.

I’m hoping, assuming, this response is sarcastic. Even as a person who knows tbe driver intimately I can say I hope she goes away for life.

She had multiple speeding violations prior and a very privileged life that she never learned from. I hope she gets the max.

I would agree but do have to wonder about allowing a golf cart on the road.

Golf carts are only allowed on certain roads and only at night IF they have certain safety features like lights, which this one had. This is very common in a low country community. If the driver was not drunk and driving, 40 mph over, this would not have been a factor.

I'm from Florida, so I get it. I also disagree that it's safe to have golf carts with a max speed of 25 mph on a road. Similarly, I think it's foolish to allow cars on beaches where there are sunbathers. It's a recipe for disaster.

+1. I agree that the driver of the suv should go away for a very long time, but the world is full of drunk idiots, which is why, if I’m going to be on the road, I want to be in my highly engineered car. I live in an area with a growing number of golf carts and allowing them on the roads is a terrible idea. My little town now has three golf cart dealerships, and even worse, they rent them to tourists (who don’t know the rules about where they can legally be driven). We have developed sophisticated safety systems for cars, so now we’re going to go tootling around in golf carts with zero impact protection? I see people riding on rear facing seats with their legs hanging off the back and holding babies in their arms, children driving golf carts, people driving them on roads where the speed limit is over 35, etc etc. I have thought it’s a matter of time before something terrible happens in my own community.

“There are two main things that distinguish a golf cart from a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV), sometimes referred to as a Low-Speed Vehicle or LSV:
- The maximum speed of a golf cart is 15mph.
- An NEV / LSV must go 25mph or more.
- An NEV has headlights, turn signals, mirrors, seat belts, and even a VIN number.
- An NEV / LSV can be operated on streets with a posted speed limit of 35mph or less.”

Gas powered golf carts can go very fast, for the record.

Not really. I live in a town with lots of street legal golf carts that are (illegally) driven on main roads with speed limits up to 50 mph and have been stuck behind them many times as they tootle along at 20-25 mph.

NP. I don't really understand people who don't understand drunk driving. Is it an East Coast/city thing? An age thing?

In most of the country, including the Carolinas, when you go to a restaurant or bar or club and have a drink, then you have to drive your car home. There's no other real option. It's too far to walk, there's no public transportation. Uber is convenient in DC but in many places, it's not. And leaving your car overnight is not allowed. The stigma has increased and people have started to be smarter about waiting before driving, but being drunk often means not making the best decisions. Is driving drunk the right thing to do? No. I've never done it, but I know many people who have (many of them have become wiser but not all and not always). I understand it.

And? None of these are excuses.

Which means she knew she would fail, so so much for PP’s list of excuses.

Sounds like you don't know what "intent" means. Still.

JFC, guys. The PP is clearly giving a list of excuses which will soon be forthcoming. She’s not advancing these as correct. Sounds like you don’t know how to exercise reading comprehension. Still.

+1 to these posters. We live very close to a fun, historic strip in Florida and see the same stupid stuff in golf carts all the time. They're not on a golf course with only pedestrians and other golf carts. They're on roads with cars and freight trucks.

To clarify, this doesn't excuse the drunk driver who killed the woman and injured others; just a sidebar pointing out the foolishness of allowing golf carts on roads with cars.

It’s ok - the weather is warm, they’ve had a couple drinks, and are at their wealthy vacation home enclave. Nothing bad happens here!
