College and University Discussion
Nope. I’ve got a student at each of these schools. They are both great and suit different interests. I can’t think of two schools that are more similar in terms of prestige. Both better than bates colby trinity colgate and imo middlebury. Also just a tick below amherst williams and bowdoin. Can’t go wrong at either if you’re after an excellent education |
can you say more about Hamilton for Finance? I don't see a Finance major. |
They have an Econ major but strong ties to finance in NYC |
There’s quite a few lacs missing between Williams/amherst and bowdoin. |
I think this sums it up. It is a great Mrs |

colgate = wesleyan > middlebury = hamilton
i am a boomer and I am very involved in my firm’s new grad hiring - these schools and their reputations are often discussed in open forums. If Wesleyan’s better days are in the past, there are still old folks like me in positions that matter that still view wes and colgate as a significant tier higher than middlebury and hamilton. and as another poster said, not even close |
And I knew immediately you were a boomer from this ranking. Middlebury places way better than all these other colleges. Middlebury is up with Williams, CMC, and Amherst placement |

This post title made me laugh. On the Wesleyan tour they mentioned no fewer than four times that Lin Manuel Miranda went to Wesleyan.
And then he wrote Hamilton. |
It’s really embarrassing. Wesleyan so badly wants to be culturally relevant, but no one knows what it is. Like cool, you have one notable alum. Their jaws would fall off looking at NYU’s contribution to theatre and the arts |

Colgate has never come close to the level of Amherst, Williams, Bowdoin, Middlebury. It’s always been a peer of Colby and Bates. More so 20-30 years ago than today. |
|
I told the tour guide that he played a character named Freddy Flapman who tried to make Big Bird move away from Sesame Street. And that some of us hadn't forgotten that, no matter how big a hit Hamilton was. |
This is correct. |
Midd is a fine school, better than Colgate and Hamilton in my book, but in no way a peer of Williams and Amherst, and just tiny bit lower than Wesleyan, and Bowdoin for that matter. |
