DP here, but this was my kid in 2021. We knew Emory at full price wasn’t happening, but DC wanted to try and did submit the application by the early deadline for merit consideration. It wasn’t the first choice anyway, so DC was fine turning down the (without merit, which we knew was a long shot to begin with) offer of admission.

I have seen reports of the entire range of admissions offers:
Admit to both
WL to both
Admit to one but not other
WL to one but not other
Admit to one and WL to other


Interesting! It would be interesting to know what considerations go into these decisions. That information is surprisingly hard to come by.

Emory's Oxford campus is nothing like Emory's main campus in Decatur/Atlanta.

It’s different but not a scam... People should definitely do their research to see if they think they would enjoy a small setting like that though. From a university perspective you are not treated differently whether you are in oxford college or Emory college.

Think of it as being somewhat similar to the college system at Oxbridge, which for many people is hard to wrap their head around.

It is a scam if Emory is charging the same price for each campus.

You you have a point. It should be less.

That makes no sense. It’s not like slacs are cheaper than universities.

When applying to Emory you want Emory not the consolation prize. It should be a consolation price.

In this case, the LAC (Oxford College) is in a lower cost area & has very few amenities when compared to Emory's Decatur, now Atlanta, campus.

+1. Thank you. DD applied to see if she could get into a teach school. Unfortunately, an Emory education would deplete everything in the college account. An English/History degree isn’t worth that from Emory, we feel I. Terms of ROI. We don’t want her to take loans for further schooling. Tough decision. 🥲

In which case you only check the main campus box on the application as my child did. I would assume the kids who checked the Oxford box do not consider it a consolation prize.
