Same college, same sorority, many of my prettiest sorority sisters did not marry well. Who did?

The thing is that it’s nuanced. Marrying the cute yoga instructor is perfectly fine if she has a college degree. Actually so the barista if she is working a second job to be an actress but can introduce you to her Broadway buddies. Especially if they come from good families. It’s not like these guys just want to marry doctors and lawyers. In fact if these doctors and lawyers come from lower socio economic classes that’s a ding against them if they can’t assimilate.

Yes. Princess Diana had no degree and was a preschool teacher . But she came from a noble family so she was an acceptable wife.

Nobility at that level looked down upon higher education until fairly recently. King Charles is the first English monarch to actually go to a school, rather than being tutored. And William will be the first English monarch with a university degree.

Hallie Biden doesn’t have a bachelor’s degree, but she is from a wealthy family so the Biden’s approved.

And btw most secretaries, or admin assistants are now adays college educated and have their own interests. Whoever looks down on them is really lame, they are gatekeepers and can make life difficult for you if you are disrespectful to them.

And if you are a doctor or a lawyer but came from a trailer park, it’s not like immediately you are going to be accepted into these social circles with wide arms.
I’ve seen some of these new professionals with some atrocious table manners.

Times have changed, my friend. Nobody cares about that stuff.

Table manners? Presenting well? You are naive if you don’t think that matters professionally or in the marriage market. Regardless of America’s claims to meritocracy, changing class is surprisingly difficult. Continue being in denial.

Anyone can learn table manners. It is about a lot more than that.

They aren’t particularly beautiful women but they share the same life experiences and fit in their families. This is a well-studied phenomenon btw, assortative mating is the reason for increasing, permanent gaps in IQ distribution across the population.

This is obvious basically everywhere except on DCUM.

DCUM is basically the only place I've seen where men push this, "guys like a happy, pretty barista from a trailer park who flatters them over someone nice and similarly educated from a good background" narrative.

Which I find particularly weird in DC, which in my circles is like THE land of assortative mating. Besides IQ, it's also why class mobility is at an all time low. Statistically, no, men are not marrying the baristas and high school educated secretaries no matter how many here crow about it being the law of the land. It doesn't bear out in reality.

I can't think of any professional I know who married someone who didn't have at least a college degree. Back before women started attending college in large numbers, it was common for, say, a lawyer to marry a secretary. That hasn't really been a thing for several generations now.

It's bizarre that anyone would claim that a significant number of men are looking to marry someone with a significantly lower level of education and socio-economic status.

This thread is about 160 female college graduates from the same college. Where did this college dropout and service industry employee thing come from?

Find me a young MD who grew up on a trailer park. There are probably less than 100 nationwide.

table manners and presenting well can be taught. This is not what this is about. But you can’t change your family of origin, you can have impeccable manners (better than the bluebloods, some of them actually have crummy manners) and still not be included.

The median parental hhi of medical students is only $75k, so I think there’s lots.

I think that’s bad data or skewed by independent students (age 24 and older) who don’t use their parents tax returns for FAFSA. Pretty much every young MD we know has at least one parent who was an MD. All of them are from UMC or rich backgrounds.

OP, how did you do marriage wise yourself? Is your husband successful, handsome, personable, funny, a great Dad, and who sets aside time to do the deed with you 2-3 times per week and always makes sure you are satisfied? Guessing that you married the perfect husband.
