Cooking on a gas stove is bad

And all those super poor millions in other countries that cook on the wood are killing our planet, but you with your Mansion and huge electrical bill and your Tesla (btw, how was your electric stove and car and house-made, using what kind of tools and power in factories only nuclear-powered generators, or perhaps most still use.... horrors fuel to power them!!!!!!) are saving the planet?

And is all of our electricity produced using nuclear generators or are most still using fuel generators to make our electricity???????? (Check the data dear, how much of our electricity is produced using nuclear generators, not that much, maybe 1/5)
Of course, that was BCS we had fewer people; you will say, right?
So wood fires are bad, but now we have so many people who should cook on an electric stove that uses fuel-powered generators to produce electricity?
I dislike stupid people op, and you just wasted my time with your stupidity. I dislike even more stupid people who think they are smart.

Anthropologist here. It's pretty well known that people who have had to cook with gas or coal in enclosed, poorly ventilated spaces DO experience medical issues from air quality. This is akin to "women breastfed their babies for all of human history up to the 1950s, formula is unnecessary" - what do you think happened to babies whose mothers died in childbirth or couldn't produce milk? Just because people had to live with something in the past doesnt mean it's harmless or healthy.

Don't really have the bandwidth the argue with the straw man in the rest of the post, yes modern consumer lifestyles are harmful to the planet, just chiming in on that note above.

Yay! Anthropologist showed up to tell us how we should be civilized and how to Other peoples that we want resources from and call them savage. Yes, our electric stoves are much superior to wooden stoves, and those savages in 2/3 of the world that can't afford them should just give us their resources and die out while we "the civilized" bombed them to hell.
Any anthropologist here should know better and shut up and never tell anyone they studies techniques of Othering and examined how savages and poor live.

I did laugh. I'm always skeptical of those jumping in proclaiming whatever profession they claim to be (pretend to be?).

Of course we should welcome meaningful progress. But banning gas stoves is not meaningful progress but ideological short sightedness. It's intriguing how gas stoves was absolutely not a topic of concern at all until, what, two years ago? We didn't suddenly "discover" that gas was amazingly horrible. Because it isn't. It's not a threat to the vast majority of people who cook with gas. The circumstances gas stoves can potentially be harmful are older stoves in non ventilated, closed spaces in older buildings. That's akin to saying cars are dangerous because if you run them in a closed garage they produce harmful emissions.

I do think we have lost a sense of realism in modern society. People need to get a grip.

When are you going to make the switch?

Renovating the kitchen next year - will make the switch. I’m sad, loved cooking on gas, but I can’t argue with the data! Oh well. Funny that we switched from wood burning fireplace to gas for the same reason, but it’s all vented, so I guess(hope) it’s all good.

You can argue with the data bc it’s junk science. If your fireplace is ok bc it’s vented, your gas stove is ok bc it’s vented too. Buy a bigger vent fan if you’re concerned.

This is such a stupid issue..

Our gas fp is fully enclosed, so it is enclosed and vented. Our gas stove and oven are not enclosed, obviously. So it’s not the same thing. Also I use the stove daily and I use the gas fp no more than 10 times over the winter.

Another reason why I am good with the switch to induction is that we have solar, so we will spend less on gas and negligible increase in electricity.

People had the same reaction in my town when wood burning fp’s were no longer allowed in new construction. It’s a no brainer that burning fuel in your home is a fire hazard and causes indoor pollution whether it’s wood or natural gas.

And gas stoves could cause a fire. They need to be banned.

Lousy modern consumers with their lifestyles...

I love my gas stove. It’s the first I’ve owned.

Nice to cook on, suck to clean. I hate picking the bits out of the well around the flame.

I've had a gas stove for 30+ years and have never had to do this?
What causes it?

Can you all lovers of gas stoves recommend one for me?

Turns out I can't find a plumber to install a commercial Vulcan in residential home.
I was seriously upset for a week.

Really? No drop or bit of anything you cook lands on the stovetop? Nary a dribble when pouring a pancake, removing scrambled eggs form the pan, folding together the ingredients in a one pan meal, pouring the rice or beans into a pot? I don't know if I'm using the correct terminology, but basically the shallow area under the grates that the pans sit on and around where the flame is. THAT area. Hate it.

Chicago is the latest, brave city to address potentialy banning gas cooking stoves in homes.

Like lithium batteries and Tesla's

Just installed a 100,000 BTU burner Viking in my second kitchen and I love it so much! The two in my upstairs kitchen are fine but the new one is so much hotter. Highly recommend going as big as possible with gas burners.

My housekeepers/chef likes our Viking as well. Frankly I'm terrified to touch it.
