What's something that you get really sick and tired of having to explain to people?

That I have a British accent but yes, I am an American and no, I'm not new to the area. I'm sick of being told "welcome" like I'm fresh off the boat.

The difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist.

You sound fun.

So I could have just chosen not to be born to an alcoholic mentally ill mom and dad? And then I would have the same life as you? Good to know.

That some people (supertasters) simply cannot eat certain foods as they taste so bitter it's enough to bring on the gag reflext.

I am one of them. I am so sick of people saying, "Oh, just try a bite of this wonderful broccoli salad I made, you will love it even if you hate broccoli!!" after I've told them I cannot eat it.

Then they act personally insulted because I won't even give it a taste.

I am not African American. My ancestors are from Jamaica and Haiti. And yes, I've done the DNA test kits.

Thank you. A black person snapped at me once for using the term “black” and I said exactly this. I don’t know anyone’s DNA and Africa isn’t the only place with highly melanated people. I felt damned if I did and damned if I didn’t in her eyes.

NP. A couple of tips: 1) you should, though, avoid saying “Blacks,” and 2) everybody is going to have their own preferences and that’s valid. They shouldn’t snip at you but you also have to not take things too personally.

I get you! My daughter is a supertaster. No she's not just picky. Some food tastes like literal sh!t to her.

I didn’t say “blacks”, and I can’t imagine a scenario where that would be ok. Eek. I just wish there were a way to not offend anyone but when no one agrees on what’s offensive, it’s a bit of a tough spot.

That American conservatives aren't, and havn't been for many years. They are right wing reactionaries, there's nothing "conservative" about them.

Be kind. Most people are just trying to make conversation.

Anonymous wrote:That I do not like seafood. Any of it. Please stop trying to convince me that your lobster/crabcakes/swordfish is so delicious and I would change my mind if I just tried a bite now. And no, I do not bring this up as a conversation topic. It arises when we are eating out at [beach place vacation] for dinner and I order something non-seafood from the menu.

Me too! But I am a vegetarian anyway, but never fish, even before.
