Then why did she explain? She invited discussion and comment by doing so.

She answered because she keeps getting asked in interviews. Is it better for her to give her answer or just tell the interviewer that it’s none of their business?

NP but I think we as a society should be more concerned about casual use of surrogates. I am always concerned these women are being taken advantage of and pregnancy is not a walk in the park. It can lead to life long medical complications.

+1 Does any state regulate surrogacy? I think some may ban it, but for those that allow, do they have standard legal requirements for the surrogate? What happened with Sherri Shepherd’s surrogate was awful.

+1. I was shocked when I found out what they get paid. I’d assumed carrying a baby would at least be worth $100k.

So I totally believe her about her abuse and sexual assault.

However, it doesn’t add up in terms of basically requiring her to use a surrogate. 1) was she not in a hospital/medical environment to harvest her eggs for the embryos?

I assume it’s either herpes and worries over that or simply the fact that she is 42. One of my good friends is a certified nurse midwife and there are definitely wealthy women who use concierge OBs at home and give birth at home and never go into a hospital their whole pregnancy. But they probably are not Paris’ age.

I think it’s as simple as she didn’t want to “ruin” her perfect body.

Yes, some states regulate surrogacy. Texas, for instance.

Agree and vanity is not a good enough reason to use a surrogate to stay trim.

I'd say that if she were 32, but at 42 and as someone who has stated she wants 4 kids, it's likely at least some of those would be by surrogate with her young frozen eggs or that she has another reason to not put her body through multiple pregnancies at her age. Rate of miscarriage is high.

How does that follow? It’s much harder to get back in shape at 42 than 32.

If you're 32 and want 4+ kids you can probably do that. Pretty iffy starting at 42. If you know you'll likely require a surrogate to build that large of family, why even bother trying to carry 1-2 when 3-5 will be by surrogate?

If she gets a surrogate to carry twins for her next year she could easily be at 3 kids by 44.

Surogacy is the newest frontier in the exploitation of women. After all, we are just uterus-havers. Little incubators for the lazy, infertile and the penis-havers.

I personally believe surrogacy is bad for women when we're talking about women who have no relationship with the bio parents, are matched with a couple through an agency, and are in a situation that they feel they must do this for monetary reasons rather than philosophical ones. I'm simplifying a complex situation but this feels like a dehumanizing process.
