Queen of E's funeral fashion

You are all missing the very best of this! Princess Anne was the first woman to participate in a tradition known as the Vigil of the Princes - dressed in miliatry uniform.

There’s a whole thing on TikTok that she wore same dress in navy for Jubilee with earring the Queen gave her and white hat. Same dress and hat in black with same earrings - supposed to be a tribute to Queen. Haven’t bothered to verify.

WaPo reported that MM wore a black version of a dress she'd worn before, and KM wore a black version of a dress she'd worn before.

Kate's dress and hat were more appropriate for the occasion. She (or her team?) has impeccable taste.

MM should just go back home. She ruins the mood of all things royal.

My mother always said that children should never be dressed in black, but then again, we were not royals.

Your mother isn't the boss

I would tell you to inform her of that, but she is dead.

I am 60 and I followed your mother’s (and mine) advice. My daughter did not wear black growing up, and even now in her 20s, she does so sparingly. My brainwashing was a success! I would have put Charlotte in black with a contrast color collar. I also don’t care for her hat, but I am old and like little girls to look like Frances Hodgkin Burnett’s Sara Crewe.

Her little hat was exactly a black version of Madeline's.

LOL.

A WaPo article said Meghan was dressed in a plain dress to hide her shape so as to say, "this isn't about me."

Another person said people would say, "Meghan looks horrible wearing her black long dress" and "Kate looks wonderful wearing her long black dress."

No wonder Meghan had to get out with people like you around!

Her "shape" ???What shape? She's no supermodel.

Nothing quite says “America” like wearing a headband reminiscent of Disney Mouse Ears to the Queen’s funeral.

A black scarf head tie would have looked a lot better while remaining in the same genre if that’s what she wanted.

Remember when Hillary wouldn’t give up the black headband look?

Jill needs to update her Farah Fawcett hair and replace the stylist who told her to wear that headband.

Doesn't look like mouse ears at all.

Jill Biden looks completely ridiculous. TF is that stupid headband?

It looks like something she took off a Playboy bunny.

Really? Worse than the flower on Middleton's mother's hat?

They both looked inelegant, IMO. I like Jill but the bow headband looked childish. Carole looked gaudy.

It's funny to remember that the British press used to sneer at Kate/Kate's family bc their money is from their party supply business (even though they have aristocratic backgrounds). Now the whole family can do no wrong bc the press hates Meghan so much.

I think the hair works for her. I didn't like the headband, but I definitely think tying a scarf around her head would have looked even more ridiculous.

She did look beautiful and regal but dress was nothing special.

That was probably on purpose, you know to keep the attention away from her.

Uh, she's been wearing a lot of enormous jewelry this week for someone who doesn't want the attention on her. I think she's doing some queen-in-waiting drag. Not a criticism -- that's what she is and she and William will likely have very large roles under Charles reign because of his age and the fact that Kate is much better liked by the public than Camilla (though people have softened towards her a bit... but they still prefer Kate).

I didn't get the sense Kate was trying to keep attention off herself at all. I sense that she was fully aware of the attention on her, her husband, and her children and that she was very careful to deliver the right messages.

MM, meanwhile, did seem to be trying to fade into the background. And for good reason -- the press and commentary about her is critical no matter what, so I sense her goal was to be as unassuming as possible and let others have the spotlight. She is at a point with the British press (and many people) where she can do no right.

The Princess of Wales is not making her own clothing and jewelry selections. She would have had a dresser and would have been advised of specific pieces of jewelry that are appropriate given their historical significance to Queen Elizabeth’s reign. She listens to those around her which is part of the reason that she never puts a foot wrong. She didn’t wake up this morning and decide to put on that pearl choker, trust me.

She wore the same jewelry she wore to the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral.

I read that pearls are traditionally worn for funerals and morning, hence the choker. I thought it looked nice, as did the large brooch she wore the other day.

They are and she has worn them on 2 prior occasions, including the Duke of Edinburg’s funeral. Someone would have been advising her about the pieces, in all likelihood, particularly for an event as significant as this one. The choker was a special piece commissioned by the Queen during her reign using pearls that were a gift.

I love pearls but now think of them as funereal after reading that. Especially with black, which is when I like to wear them bc of the contrast. Didn't realize I was Brit-funeral appropriate.

Something about MM's cape and hat say Sherlock Holmes era detective to me. I think it's the shape of the hat I don't like for the occasion. Same with Jilli's head back and Carol Middleton's hat. While I though the flower on Carol's hat was fine, I didn't like the shape of the hat for the occasion. "Hats off" to Kate, Charlotte, Camilla, Sophie, and the PM of New Zealand, though.

Yes. Nothing direct or anything, but Carole is a distant relative of the Queen Mother and Michael is descended from some Baroness. It's not where their money comes from, though.
