Ethics of MCPS

The wealthy are leaving MCPS. It doesn’t take wealth to file a state or OCR Complaint. There are also attorneys that work pro-bono or on a sliding scale to help protect the rights of students with disabilities that can help those with financial need. PP acts that it’s a bad thing for parents to advocate for their children and file complaints when MCPS violates state and federal laws to protect students against discrimination on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, or disability.

Private schools require parents to pay for private evaluation and plenty of private services(tutoring, OG, specialists, etc.). But, please understand they not change their class setup, curriculums, or go above the services they already have in place. They expect parents to pay privately for those extra needs/services. And if you don’t and your kid continues to struggle and its obvious they need more, you will kindly be counseled out.

I don't know anything about this but the PP statement rang true. I know quite a few families whose kids have IEP/504 issues and never heard one complain so can't help but wonder if this is just another MCPS hater spreading their misery.

If you don’t know anything then what exactly rang true? Attend an IEP meeting then you might comprehend what PPs are describing. It’s a corrupt school system that uses unethical practices to deny students accommodations and services that students need to learn.

MCPS has lost the concept that a public school system should be about educating students.

What rings true is every parent I've spoken with who has kids with 504 or IEP plans has never once complained in fact they seem completely satisfied with how the county is handling it which leads me to believe that this is a bunch of nonsense cooked up by the usual people who just like to complain about everything without providing a shred of proof.

Except for the quantity of open investigations against MCPS from this past summer with the Department of Education Office of Civil Rights? MCPS was in the top-20 of # open investigations with the DoE OCR, so does that count?

I found it so ironic that MCPS conducted discrimination surveys when all the had to do was look in the board's inbox.

How much of that rank is because MoCo is full of wealthy, wonky parents with advanced degrees who're able to engage MCPS within the framework of applicable regulations and laws?

How much of that rank is because MoCo is full of corrupt central office staff and unprincipled principals who routinely delay or deny IEP's, bury the CFP skeletons in the closet, and retaliate against families that speak out?

The sliding scale is for very low income. If you make $100-150k you are out of luck. Legal aid limits are even lower. I did not have the energy to file complaints.

And MCPS enrollment keeps decreasing. Not are students leaving a broken system but 800 teachers have handed in their resignations.

And MCPS enrollment keeps decreasing. Not are students leaving a broken system but 800 teachers have handed in their resignations.

Unfortunately it's only going up and schools are horribly overcrowded.

Must be nice to live the way you do where everything in the world works to your favor. Many of us have records/documentation of the small fortune we spend on private services, emails and much more denying services. How much in terms of services do you think kids get when there is only one speech therapist per school? How much OT do you think kids get when there is one OT shared by several schools? How much time with a special education teacher do you think these kids get if there are only 2-3 per school? Schools with 400-600 students in elementary school.

There is a lot about it, you just choose not to read or listen.

I think they were talking about the people that WERE NOT accepted into the program, such as the families that COULD NOT afford lawyers, an independent neuro psych eval, an advocate.

Yes they're lying. A dozen years ago the school had around 144,000 students their own numbers show it currently has around 158,000. That is growth in my book.

Yes they're lying. A dozen years ago the school had around 144,000 students their own numbers show it currently has around 158,000. That is growth in my book.
