I'm not at all surprised that LWNJs would seek to tell others what is and is not "misinformation." They might as well simply say anything that doesn't suit our narrative is misinformation. That's what it boils down to. That you support it tells us all we need to know.

The announcement of this board was made right after Musk’s takeover of Twitter. This is a huge CYA move and very transparent. They know what Twitter is burying.

And, just a week after Obama made a speech at Stanford on "disinformation." Makes you wonder who is really running the country.

We have a legitimate issue in the world and US of mostly Russian infused lies and disinformation polluting our body politic. How do you suggest we deal with it?

We already have a system. If someone writes or says something false and it's damaging they can be sued in court for libel or slander.

How do you sue a meme? How do you sue an anonymous lie amplified a billion times?

There is no such thing as an anonymous lie. It clearly came from somewhere. Do some discovery.

There are a lot of lazy people—mostly men—who seem to think women’s purpose on the internet is not to inform others about their expertise, analyze the news, or amplify their work, but to answer inane questions about basic concepts about which they could easily educate themselves.

Thank for posting. That’s a good article.

Seems like it might be a good idea to find out where it came from? How do you sue bad actors from North Korea?
Seems like we should maybe have an agency for this. Maybe put someone in charge.

Sorry, at this point there's been many more narratives being pushed by the current party in charge that ended up actually being wrong/disinformation. They have blatantly lied so many times that I have no reason to believe anything they say- that includes claims of supposed "Russian disinformation". I suggest rather than just issuing one sided selected talking points, you deal with it by allowing free discussion so the truth can be properly discussed, debated and parsed out. I suspect they won't do that because it would totally expose them immediately as being total morons and frauds (even though the truth still comes out eventually). Thus, all the hand wringing over Twtr.

I just want 500 million in Koch money to flow to the “right places” like the Zuck bucks did in 2020 and see how Ds react to that. Half can be used to put bounties on ballot harvesting where it is illegal and the other on get out the vote. It’s the new “fair and free” standard after all.

Where is the authorizing statute for this? Senate confirmation of the head etc? Would be great to make folks vote to see where they come out.

I got a feeling that Singin Nina will suddenly resign next week due to family concerns (she’s pregnant). Then proceed to profit off of her imagined sexism.

The left are so predictable... Thank God some still believe in the first amendment.

I always think of that Mizzou journalism prof who wanted to shut down people that were challenging her crew demanding to “get some muscle over here!” in these situations. It never occurs to them that the First Amendment is much of the “muscle” we need and any more is likely only to support shutting down the speech of others.

A note on manels.

I will not participate as the moderator of an all-male panel, or “manel,” and I will seriously reconsider my participation if your organization has any manels on its agenda for the event in question. If you need references for women experts, please ask, or better yet, consult Women Also Know Stuff, Foreign Policy Interrupted, SheSource, or Google.

Maybe, JUST maybe, YOU are the one who has been lied to by Fox News, OAN, Newsmax, and the right wing echo chamber. Consider it.

When people talk about Pizzagate with a non-existant pizza parlor basement, was that truth? When people say horsepaste works for COVID, is that truth?

Where is the line?
