| We just tell our kids to play with everyone at school no matter they’re in AAP class or not. |
|
Our school doesn't have LIII (at least not beyond the designation), but all the kids know who is in advanced math and that you have to do well on SOLs to stay in there. The know this because the advanced math teachers remind the non level IV kids about it before the SOLs in the spring. It's great practice for my 5th grade DD to have to stress over tests every spring. |
| Our school has local level IV and a bunch of kids leave to go to general ed math. I heard there were some chatter earlier in the year about who is going to advanced math but it seems normal now. The general ed math kids have alot of fun in their math class so they come back to tell the AAP math kids about all the cool stuff they get to use in math like pop it and playdoh. I haven't seen segregation issues at our school. Alot of the AAP kids play with general ed kids at recess since alot of them are also neighborhood friends or roblox friends .. lol |
| Sadly our Level III and Advanced Math are in name only too. My 5th grader is supposed to take 6th grade math SOL which she is destined to do miserably on since she hasn't learned any. I'm pretty upset that she will have to take two math classes in 6th grade to stay in the Algebra in 8th grade track. ("upset" is actually an understatement. I even volunteered to help teach it, to no avail) |
I mentioned it to my DS but he said he doesn't want to be in the "hard" class. |
🤣yep, we are so invested and kids just want to do a bit of school and then hang out with friends |
Exactly, when I explained my DS, what AAP is, he said “oh more and difficult work, No Thanks” |
Technically, it won’t be more and/or hard for AAP kids. Right? My DD has no idea on what’s AAP since we never told her what are the NNAT or COGAT. DD has no idea on the scores and the process (she is in the pool). I just told her, MAYBE IF she gets a chance to study with many other very smart kids in a new school, does she want to do that. She said yes. She has many friends in the base school. My husband was in talented class in FCPS when he was a kid. He hates it mostly bc other kids making fun of kids in those classes. But he is supportive if DD is admitted and she is truly qualified and needs the fun stuff to learn. |
They just think it is more and hard, we know they can easily handle it, his scores and iReady and grade points are all perfect. |
How is that possible when their own timeline on the web states April 4-5? |
By mail you get it between those dates? |
| Any staff reading these threads that can verify actual dates of notice to families/guardians? So many conflicting dates between board docs and website. |
Yep, again, decisions will be released on Thursday 3/31. |
I hope we will get a copy of the package as well tomorrow. |
