They are requiring it. If you don’t present a test at the door they will rapid test your child right then and there.

I got an email saying schools would receive their own test for students and staff. Who knows if they’ll actually follow through.

Where are you getting this from?

Distribution/testing days. Could you imagine the uproar if it was required?! The antivaxx crowd and the anti mask crowds would be near riot.

Right. And you know the antivax crowd/others who are just over it all will not be engaging in this testing. This will all yet again fall on the vaxxed people who have been doing as they’re told this whole time (and those families were likely to be rapid testing at home after being in groups/traveling anyway). This is a whole huge logistical nightmare that once again burdens kids because we have chosen schools as our scape goat for community spread while the bars, restaurants, theaters, and so forth stay open.

We opted our kids out of DCPS testing. No way we're going to test them before school starts up again.

I doubt more than a relatively small percentage of people will take the Mayor up on her offer.

Why wouldn't you test?

Tests on asymptomatic people, especially kids, are pointless and a waste of testing resources. And both our kids are vaccinated, so we're following CDC guidelines. Testing them would be nothing more than theatre.

Thank you for contributing to spread and leading us back to quarantines, you selfish, selfish person.

We're following CDC guidelines regarding asymptomatic testing.

Take it up with them.

Your asymptomatic spawn can infect others. People are getting covid through boosters right now.

We also opted out and I am not sure if we will test before school starts if it's not required, BUT we aren't traveling over the holidays and not hanging out with anyone outside of our household indoors, so we are at very low risk of bringing Covid into the school, and the risk of a false positive would be statistically higher in our case. If we traveled or congregated with people, we would test.

Sweet - since we had 0 snow days built into the calendar we now go through Monday 6/27!

No chance; they'll either ignore the requirement somehow because of the COVID emergency that's been declared or cancel two other random days off.

NP. I don't think you are going to make anyone more likely to listen to your argument (with which I agree) by calling their kids "spawn". Demeaning children is never a good look.

We will test because we’re not total assholes.

Staff got an email that makes it sound like we will have to report. In which case the days can’t be made up without union approval since it would add extra days to the contract.

From the email:
To ensure appropriate time for testing, we are adjusting the school calendar in January. Monday, January 3 and Tuesday, January 4 will now be non-instructional days for students. This means there will be no classes for students, and staff and families will use those days to pick-up rapid antigen tests. Staff will receive additional information about the schedules and expectations for these days.

If further adjustments are needed to your school’s opening based on the results of staff tests, we will communicate those as early as possible. Families should currently plan for schools to reopen on Wednesday, January 5.

Ummm did you notice the hours long waits at pretty much every testing site today? Perhaps the store shelves completely empty of rapid tests? The vast majority will test and are already doing so.

like anyone else, as a teacher with kids in DCPS, if they are off, so am I. i’m not sure why they want us in unless we need to plan for virtual school?

Why can't they convert some of the other seemingly random non instructional days to instructional days to avoid losing class time?

Yeah, but that's to avoid infecting family - grandma and grandpa in particular

Teacher here. I think the two days are also for us to possibly prep virtual platforms and lessons just in case. Teachers are not off those two days.
