Everyone on CC is a crazy striver -- lots of lying, rounding up and conflating GPA with weighted GPA. See also how they "super score" exam scores. I remember there was a URM teen a few years ago who was spamming a detailed play by play of his AP, SAT subject, SAT/ACT scores and applications. Super attention craving. He ended up getting into Ivies. Then he asked the moderator to delete all of his old posts, I suspect because he realized he clearly only got into such an elite college because of one reason and didn't want his all of totally mediocre test scores on the record. The moderator refused to delete them per website policy. |
It is a $55 monthly that can be taken over and over, why stress over this? way easier to retake than the AP |
Mmkay. I'm sure you know that your kid's uber-prepped SAT/ACT score, combined with multiple retakes, does not make them a genius. You're deluded if you think a high test score means your child is special. |
I'm not sure why he would care. Many white students only get into HYP because they are legacies or have family/friends who are big donors. If the kid you are talking about was the inner city kid who had family members killed in gun violence, started a nonprofit to try to curb gun violence, and got something like a 1360 SAT, I don't think he has anything to be embarrassed about. He was also president of his high school and a great football player. I personally don't think his race was the only reason he got in. He showed perseverance and leadership. Success in life depends a lot more on those qualities than just book smarts. I work with a few people who are super smart but are so busy thinking about every possible (read nonexistent) problem that they are never timely on their work. I hate working with them. After a certain SAT/GPA threshold is met, colleges know kids can do the work. Beyond that they know showing leadership and perseverance will mean that student will likely contribute to the school community and to society as a whole in a positive way. The obsession with test scores is ridiculous. |
Sounds like you have some anger issues to work out, are you seeing a therapist? |
+1. Unnecessarily nasty on a forum that is supposed to be helpful. Probably not even parent who has gone through the admissions process. Just wants to lash out at the world. I've noticed an uptick in ugliness on this forum, especially whent he holidays come around and people are worked up about family. |
| Everyone who doesn’t agree with your echo chamber of mediocre in denial moms is a troll or has anger issues. Or just calling a spade a spade. If your kid can’t produce 4s and 5s on AP exams and a top notch SAT or ACT you know full well your kid isn’t bright. We see through your self-serving BS. Congrats on conning them into whatever college on their fake GPA alone — and then watching them predictably self destruct on campus when you weren’t around to helicopter and run every aspect of their life. Regressing to the mean in some easy joke major. |
| Fascinating how every bright teen who scores higher than your mediocre teen on the ACT or SAT did so with test prep and retakes — yet your kid’s pumped GPA is most certainly the result of fake inflated grades, low rigor, unlimited retakes, extra credit, turning in late assignments for full credit, and grade grubbing at the end of the semester. |
I would LOVE to know all about your amazing kid (assuming you have one). To be this superior and/or bitter (?), I would just love to know this story. There is so much anger in your words, I really feel sorry for you. I will no longer defend myself or my kid to your laughable taunting...best of luck to you and maybe lay off the booze? I dunno, just a suggestion. |
So my question to you is this, why do YOU care? So why does this bother YOU so much? Are you a parent of a kid with a crap GPA and a high test score and you feel they are entitled to get into some magical college that they were rejected from? Or maybe YOU were... fascinating stuff really. |
No one is conning anyone. The colleges specifically allow test optional so kids are getting in through the legitimate process. Why do you care? Whether they self destruct doesn't impact you. Move on. |
NP DC got high 1500 in the first sitting, but sound like your smart high GPA kid can’t get a decent scores with prep and multiple retakes? Why are you so mad at PP otherwise? |
DP. My kid also scored high 1500s first time and you and the obnoxious pp sound like really miserable people. Why do you come here to just be rude. If you don't have anything helpful to say, why not just refrain from commenting. Anxiety is a real thing. I don't have test anxiety and generally do extremely well on tests, I hate public speaking even on topics I know everything about. Just don't be so judgmental. |
GPA's are fraudulent in MCPS. There are so many retakes and concessions made by teachers on assignments. It's a fake "A." Weighted or unweighted, it doesn't matter. Most of these grades are inflated. Grade inflation is real, people. MCPS's policy is to keep the higher grade for retakes. We didn't have any retakes when we were in school. You got the grade you got and worked harder the next time. Not here. Its such a bogus sense of accomplishment. |
No, you definitely have issues. Plus you don't know what you are talking about, which makes it worse. |
