I’ve seen so many people of all backgrounds around my area with these tags lately. Young and old, people of color and Caucasian. I assumed these were politics related for many years. Now that a mixed race LGBTQ couple who are our neighbors, have recently gotten these tags, I’m wondering if I was incorrect.
What is going on with the popularity? |
| Opposition to vaccine mandates? It's mostly on the right but there are some uninformed people on the left as well (I know the mandates are gone but it's still an "identity" for some people). |
| 99% MAGA |
| I think people think it sounds cool, but don't realize what it means. |
| If its a white driving the car then yes, but not if its a BIPOC. |
|
They are definitely Tea Party/MAGA and very much political. Unusually entitled dudebros who want their guns and pot but think abortion is 'baby killing.'
|
| Maga dog whistle. |
| They are political, but some people may not realize that. |
| No one gave MAGA the right to hijack a flag that ha been part of American history since 1776. |
| No such thing as a don’t thread on me tag. |
I mean, the Gadsden Flag is about as political as it gets, going back to the founding of our country. I do agree it's kind of lost its meaning. And its use to signal hostility to fellow citizens is beyond the pale. |
| Ha! From your title I thought this was going to be a satire about DCUM posts. |
I’ve assumed this as well. |
It's not used to signal hostility. It's literally about limits on government power. If anything, it fits perfectly into a leftist oppressor/oppressed narrative except for the fact that it calls for people to be independent in thought and action. |
| A small number of people get them just because of the plate’s color (yellow). For them, it’s not political at all; they just want to color coordinate with their vehicle’s color. |
