IVF may soon end in Alabama

And we all know where this is headed. If embryos are now “children”. It’s not just going to be Alabama.

In this case, a staff member accidentally destroyed the embryos. What provider will want to take the risk of liability if something inadvertent happens to a person's embryos? What if the provider uses a procedure (maybe testing for genetic issues?) that damages the embryo? Can the provider be held liable for injuring a child?

Sounds like manslaughter to me, maybe negligent homicide

Former stem cell researcher - balls of cells make not a human.

In all seriousness, I've had many healthy babies die in my womb. An embryo is most definitely not destined to be a human. Anyone that's experienced the pain that is being infertile knows that.

I am not religious whatsoever, but Ivf is morally and ethically wrong. On top of that, too many things wrong go wrong and women who do this are desperate and those who aren’t successful are basket cases.

You sound very reproductively successfully lol.

There is nothing “morally or ethically wrong” with IVF.

Maybe check yourself before posting this on an Infertility board.
And also, get your facts straight as to how many "things" go wrong with IVF. And are you telling families pursuing adoption that they are desperate, too?

Let me guess, you think it’s unethical because couples who use IVF can “just” adopt, yet you probably don’t feel any way when someone you know announces a pregnancy or when you see an article about big families with many multiple bio children.

Oh and FYI, half of infertility is male factor. It is NOT just a women’s health issue.

Also I forgot to add, do you call men “basket cases” over being upset over having a daughter instead of a son? Particularly the ones who “need” a son to pass the family name? I think I know the answer to this one.

Giving birth to people like you is morally and ethically wrong.

IVF clinics in Alabama will have to shut down. I wonder what they will do with the thousands of embryos frozen in that state. Ship them to another state and have the parents pay for out-of-state storage? Would they be able to dispose of embryos that no one claims?

Will women be required to have embryos implanted? If so, why not? I suppose they would authorize releasing them for adoption?

I have two kids from IVF and I'm very very very glad that I am all out of embryos.

If embryos are children, I don’t see how it could be legal to freeze and store them, let alone destroy them. Or even create them? There’s no chance ivf can be legal in Alabama I don’t think and have it make any sense. I think they’ve just been doing it illegally with no enforcement since they changed their constitution and now the court is just pointing out the obvious.
