According The New York Times, it sounds like they intend to live the high life off daddy's money and a new non-profit foundation racket (a new family foundation they recently created) and Meghan thinks she can become another Gwyneth Paltrow with a goop lifestyle brand. Hilarious.

I have not read all 80 pages but I don’t understand the issue. If she sucks so bad and makes Royal staff cry, makes people quit, is rude, doesn’t get along with Kate, and spends oodles of money that “doesn’t belong to her”, then why isn’t this good riddance to bad rubbish? Shouldn’t the crown be happy she wants to not be a senior royal and wants to stop the money train and live far away from the people she is “making cry”? If all those stories are true, why wouldn’t the official statement be “we will miss them and wish them the best”?

Re: the merchandising, Jay Z and Beyoncé pulled a similar trademark law stunt with Blue Ivy. They never actually intended to merchandise her name but they wanted to stop someone else from doing it, so they registered hypothetical products like strollers. You’re not really supposed to just squat on trademarks like that but I’m guessing the Sussexes are trying to protect their name more than actually sell tee shirts.

They don't want to stop the money train. That's a big part of it. They also want to be influencers trading off their royal status which is unpalatable.
