Pelosi announces impeachment inquiry

Ambassador to Ukraine is not a cushy post, so there isn't a Trump donor appointee there, but Trump and Pompeo only work through Trump's political appointees who they know will participate in criminal conspiracies.

Great theme song for the investigation.

Very interesting, thanks.

My question: did Volker hope to avoid jail by resigning and cooperating with the investigation?
All the participants in these texts are clearly implicated, even Bill Taylor who texted his misgivings and wrote that it was "crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign."

These texts are the smoking gun.

And what disgusting liars those GOP Congressmen are to come out after the hearing and say that it's a nothingburger.

They are truly destroying our country.

This is a smoking gun against Trump?

This combined with the rest of the string does seem to be a smoking gun. And that string isn't the whole thing - they are planning to release more.

The texts on July 25 before and after the call are the smoking guns IMO. The ones into August and September are CYA. Taylor was pretty naive with some of the stuff he put into text.

7/25 (before call):
Volker: Good lunch - thanks. Heard from White House - assuming President Z convinced trump he will investigate/"get to the bottom of what happened" in 2016, we ill nail down date for visit to Washington. Good luck! See you tomorrow - kurt

7/25 (after call)
Yermak: Phone call went well. President Trump proposed to choose any convenient dates. ...

9/1:
Taylor: Are we going to say that security assistance and WH meeting are conditioned on investigations?
Gordon: Call me

This stuff is just nuts.

Taylor was not naive. He was appalled and wanted his objections on the record. He knew that texting it that explicitly would rattle Sondland, who had no business being involved in Ukraine at all, but was included because he was the political appointee who spoke to Trump and Pompeo. Taylor came out of retirement to help Ukraine against Russia and was pissed that the military assistance was being held up for Trump's "deliverable" e.g., a public commitment from Zelensky for the "investigations". Taylor obviously objected in phone calls to Sondland, and put his position on the record in the texts.

I love Taylor. When is he coming before Congress?

+2
I love that he’s pretending to play stupid in that text to get it on record.

Former State here - worked with Bill Taylor on Afghanistan. The notion of him being naive made me laugh out loud. This guy is as seasoned as they get. He knew exactly what he was doing. Sondland is a political hack, and no one would respond to a conversational text like that if it wasn’t a CYA.

Jared to lead the White House war room.

They text about contacting "Fiona's replacement" to try to get Trump to commit to a meeting with Zelensky.

Fiona Hill was the White House senior director for Russia and Europe. She resigned a week before the Trump call with Zelensky.

Volunteer Envoy to Ukraine, unpaid, isn't cushy either.

I know the internal conversation, "Is it better, for the country or personally, if I stay or better if I go?" that Volker was having constantly. It's impossible to know the right answer.

Astonishing there are people who read this and come up with anything other than total quid pro quo smoking gun.

Yup. Stop engaging with Trumpers. Just outvote them.

Political appointee Trumplicker who gave a million bucks to the inaugural committee.

Sounded to me like Taylor was exasperated. That Volker/Sondland didn't know why exactly Trump was holding everything but were under the impression that it was over the political dirt. At tat point Taylor wanted to out it on the record and talk clearly.

Also, a lot of people seemed to have quit/got fired at the time this was happening.

And to add, it was even worse when Obama told Iran it could have the eastern part of Israel.
