But they can’t get into the Ivies, Stanford, MIT etc. anymore because those schools are getting more inclusive. So the parents start looking at Tulane, Wash U, Northeastern, Wake, Tufts, NYU, etc and tell themselves that they’re better than UVA, UMD, Tech, William & Mary, the UC schools and the better Big Ten schools just because they cost more. But they never were. Never. The new rankings reflect that reality.

There are MANY private school students who get into the schools you so worship. However, many of them do not apply to those schools. They don’t worship at the USNWR altar like so many. In general, these are wealthy families, so they’re not forced to go instate. They apply to schools like Chicago, Vandy, WUSTL, Emory, Northwestern, SLACs and other great schools. Don’t hate just because they have more resources than you.

Lol I have plenty of money. I’m just not stupid and elitist on how I spend it.

Ha ha. Keep telling yourself that

NP. Tulane, Wash U, Wake, Tufts, etc generally don’t summon up feelings of either jealousy or disdain. They’re fine but most of all they are associated with wealthy parents who want a brand name school for their kids, even if that brand is “expensive” rather than “elite.”

It’s OK, and no one begrudges you, but neither are they disappointed if strong public universities are recognized as just as good (if not better).

Thank you, Mr. Howell. I hope you & Gilligan get rescued soon.

Enjoy working for my kids soon.

With all your money you’d think you could afford a personality.

Or a shred of decency. What about Mrs. Howell?

I predicted Emory, Tufts, Vandy, Tulane, ND, Wash U, Wake, Tufts, USC, NYU would go down with the new USNWR rankings while noting that Berkeley, UCLA and Michigan were underrated and should rise in rankings.

I think we will see this general trend continue next year although not as dramatic as we have seen this year.

didn't ND go up?

Ranking won't have much affects.
People won't switch to large publics for some shuffling in rankings for social mobility etc.

I laugh all the way to the bank in my early retirement with hundreds of thousands of extra cash watching my UVA grads set the world on fire.

You mean vindicated? You betcha.

ND dropped two spots, to 20, which the school didn’t even bother to respond to because it’s meaningless and in line with its historical ranking. It’s not like the other schools on that list, where their rankings plummeted.

Why are public school folks so obsessed with rankings?
Insecurity? need to get some sort of approval?
