Taylor Swift is awful (and her music isn't even very good)

This just proves you know nothing. Even my covid brain knows the opposite is true. Her songwriting has been praised by many many including the very best of songwriters: Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Dolly Parton, Stevie Nicks, John Mayer, Ed Sheeran and on and on. Not to mention the gazillion industry and artist voted awards she’s won, a barrel full of Grammys and a gazillion other. I’m sure others can fill in with facts. I hate this thread.

Out of curiosity, I looked up what Dolly had to say about Taylor. While Dolly was very gracious, she didn’t actually have anything nice to say. Dolly said that she doesn’t follow Taylor’s music, that touring is hard, so props to Taylor for doing it, and last but not least that she (Dolly) would be just there to work on the half-time show and wouldn’t be in the crowd watching before of after. That’s hardly an example of gushing praise.

I hate this thread too, because it shows me how fanatical people can get about a middling talent.

Dolly: “Taylor, she’s a great writer”

See, multiple sources (apparently not the one you chose to “look up”).

Dolly was just being kind.

None of the musicians listed could name a Taylor Swift song if asked, except for maybe Billy Joel who has young children.

Name artists/writers/producers in Taylor’s age range that have praised her music.

And I know this because I am omniscient and know the personal thoughts of every single artist who has ever commented favorably about Taylor Swift.
And I know when people say things that are true and when they are not.
And I know the personal reasons that tons of artists have seen the eras tour, including: Emma Roberts, Emma Stone, Hair, Laura Dean, Shania Twain, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence, Keith Urban, Adam Sandler, Ellen Pompeo, Gigi Hadid, Selena Gomez, Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Reese Witherspoon, Katie Couric, Diplo, Arron Rogers, Trevor Kelce, JJ Watt, Emily Blunt, Ethan Hawke, Jessica Chastain, Jeff Goodblum, Billy Joel, Kerry Washington, Halsey, Jimmy Fallon, Cameron Diaz, Zoe Saldana, Charlize Theron, Jessica Alba, Channing Tatum, Paula Abdul, Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini, and scores of others.

I’m not sure why Gigi Hadid is being held up as any sort of “artist,” but if you think that anyone of those people listed above paid a single cent to see Taylor’s concert, I have a bridge to sell you.

Look at the actual interviews, not the cliff’s notes. It follows the pattern PP described above:

I’m sure that if I went through each artist that allegedly offered her praise, it would be a similar dynamic: artist being interviewed, artist being asked, out of left field, what he or she thinks of Taylor Swift’s music, artist making a generic/political “Oh, she’s great. Love her.” type comment and then artist steering the conversation deftly back to selling his or her stuff. It’s called being a diplomatic professional, not adoring praise.

The Beatles used to publicly make fun of, a far superior to Swift, Joni Mitchell. Paul McCartney is not now in love with Taylor’s music. He is being diplomatic in his very old age.

Many of these artists have actually performed with her, and I saw many of the full interviews. What is it with you? You (or whomever) said no one praises her. They do. Full stop. Sorry to burst your bubble, but many musicians praise her.

A lot of them are being opportunists, too. There's a reason you see a lot of aging rock stars praising Swift (even in vague ways). It's a way for them to stay relevant. Of course some of these people want to do duets with her or cover one of her songs -- it would help them make money. A lot of this is cynical efforts to make themselves relevant in today's musical landscape and to capitalize on Swift's popularity among young fans who don't give a $hit about any of these people, and mostly haven't heard of them.

A lot of the admiration is also for things other than her music. They praise her business sense, her fanbase, her monetary success, etc. This is different from saying they love her music. The one exception is Stevie Nicks talking about a specific song and saying it spoke to her and helped her through her grief. That's true praise (and the song she's praising is good!). But I take a lot of these comments with a grain of salt.

DP but I think his is just a difference of perception. I don't care very much what music Gigi Hadid likes. She's not a musician. Same with almost everyone on your list. These are not people whose musical taste interests me. I also know a lot of them went to her shows because they took their teen/tween kids. Which is great! But if I heard Blake and Ryan took their kids to Bluey on Ice, I wouldn't be like "oh my god, I've got to see it -- it must be amazing."

Lol I like imagining there's a third Kelce brother named Trevor who had to take a Southwest Airlines flight to Phoenix and put himself up in an AirBnB and pay for his own nosebleed seats for the Eras tour.

Ed Sheeran is the only musician you listed at any point in this thread who performed with Taylor Swift. The rest of them are trying to be polite and/or stay relevant.

In contrast, Tony Bennet, did actually like Lady Gaga and performed with her repeatedly, no arm twisting involved. Can you really not grasp the difference?

There are literally photos of her performing with many of these artists. She's performed with too many to count. Hell, Mick Jagger joined her on stage and she's performed with Paul McCartney. Are you saying they are trying to stay relevant? Look, you can hate Taylor Swift. Knock yourself out if that brings you joy. But you are simply wrong that many artists and musicians have praised her and then performed with her. That's just fact.

Really? Please do share when and where Paul and Taylor performed together at a concert, like Tony Bennet did with Lady Gaga. The only photos of Paul McCartney “performing” with Taylor that I could find were at an SNL after party not a concert. Jimmy Fallon was there singing, too. Actually, Paul goes to the Jimmy Fallon show frequently and performs a lot of songs with him, too. I guess Paul must be captivated by Jimmy’s musical prowess. Or maybe he’s just trying to stay relevant?

You didn’t say it had to be at a concert. You literally said no one but Ed Sheeran had performed with her. Untrue. There’s literally a photo if her performing with Stevie Nicks in a linked piece. She had a ridiculously high number of musicians from all genres join her onstage when she toured for her 1989 tour. Stop moving the goalposts. You’re wrong. Period. Hate her all you want but you’re wrong on that note.
