| DD has wanted to become a doctor forever. She learned that she can get an MD abroad, in our home country. It's a 6 year degree, the cost is negligible, the housing set. There is an entrance exam (biology + chemistry) that is doable. Should we let her do this? |
| How strong a student is she? If she wants to practice in the US, she'll have to take/pass USCMLE right? Look up stats for students from that school/country that have done it successfully. |
| Where does she plan to practice medicine? |
In the US. The plan is to apply for residence here. |
*residency |
| So, the daughter is not a US citizen or green card holder? |
She is a very strong student. She could good to a good college in the US. |
| What country? It probably matters. |
| I would have her go here. |
If that falls through, would she be willing to practice in the home country or another country that imports doctors? |
|
She'll need to pay for her own residency program, right? So that might be something to consider, although obviously med school is more expensive.
I have had a couple of good doctors who practiced medicine outside the US and I think it's fine. We need more doctors in the US! |
please explain? |
yes, she is. born here. we are also citizens but immigrants. |
| I would absolutely let her do this. |
| I have a good friend that went to medical school in the DR. It wasn't her first choice, but she is very successful in the US as a doctor. But she would have preferred medical school in the US. You are taken more seriously. |
