I started not eating from 7:30pm - 7:30am and am losing weight. I only drink water in the evening after 7:30 and deal with hunger pains. Thought I would share another "hack" to help anyone. I'm going to keep this up for 6 weeks and see what happens. Scientifically it has to do with insulin. |
I do the same. And I find, if I think about it, I’m never actually hungry during that time anyway. (In the morning, sometimes.) |
So if you’re out with friends no wine past 7:30? |
So you just doing Intermittent Fasting? 12:12? I don't think that IF helps people lose weight. |
That doesn't work for me, but I also have PCOS and hyperinsulinema. So ab actual medical condition none of my doctors were willing to treat. |
Intermittent fasting is a pretty popular method. I generally do 1-9 as an eating period |
12/12 is not strong enough for PCOS. https://www.amazon.com/PCOS-Plan-Prevent-Polycystic-Syndrome/dp/1771644605 This book really changed my heath and PCOS symptoms, I combined it with IF. https://www.amazon.com/End-Your-Carb-Confusion-Customize/dp/1628604298, co-author wrote this https://www.tuitnutrition.com/2019/06/pcos.html There are PCOS success stories in both books. My hair even grew back, also lost GERD symptoms, tendon pain and migraines by lowering insulin. |
lol I’ve basically always followed that rule and I’m still usually fat. I mean, 7:30??? |
Yeah 7:30 - 7:30 isn’t really intermittent fasting, that’s just normal. Makes you wonder what OP was eating and drinking after 7:30 that this is making her lose weight. |
It doesn’t matter what she was eating, Judgy McJudgeface, she was eating after 7:30 as many do and not having a long fasting window. She’s now learned that having a larger fasting window is beneficial for her her weight so just say “good job, OP! That’s great!” |
I agree with you re: encouragement. That said, the idea that what is described here is a “fasting window” is emblematic of one of the primary problems worldwide - people are eating too much too often. 12 hours isn’t fasting. That’s normal. We should call this “normal structured eating.” |
Make sense if you’ve been a nighttime snacked! Congrats on finding something that works for you. |
Studies show that it doesn't increase weight loss over caloric reduction diets with no time limits - but studies also show that it helps many people adhere to caloric restriction if they block out half day or more where they don't consume any food. It isn't recommended for people with prior eating disorder. I like IF, but I can't do more than 12-14 hours because I wake up really early and I break my fast immediately with a serving of walnuts and a few baby carrots, because I know that cortisol spikes in the early morning and the best way to get it back down is to eat. When I did 18 hour fasts in the past on IF, it always meant skipping breakfast and that actually works against weight loss because it allows you to be in an elevated cortisol state every morning for hours until you feed your metabolism. Longer IF fasts would work better for people who are willing to cut off eating in the early afternoon and depending on the food you're consuming, that could mean difficulty with sleep. |
I lost about 35 pounds last year and I didn't eat between about 8:30pm and 6:30am. Just saying... |
My spouse did really well on this, but they have early stage diabetes and it is thought to help with insulin. They have also had serious issues with late night bingeing so it was good to just remove the trigger altogether. It’s harder to keep up during the holidays or socializing though,, and not surprisingly he fell off track.
I did equally well over the same timeframe and have had better luck keeping it off just watching my overall calories. I look forward to my nightly snack and budget for it throughout the day. I strive to keep it relatively balanced on macros and around 200 cals or less. But I don’t have any hormone or insulin issues so YMMV. Different strokes for different folks. . |
