The younger teams are as new, or even newer, and don't have the same problem.
If the team has the same problem over the course of several years, then the club and the coach have to take responsibility for not cutting the kids who are not training hard enough, and for not recruiting new kids who are motivated to train. "We have bad material to work with" -- OK, but you chose that material. Throwing up your hands and saying nothing can be done is just a cop-out.
There is no toxicity among this team's parents. Everyone is supportive. Nobody is trying to coach from the sidelines. Everyone wants the team to do well.
Their competitiveness is actually less than the close scores would indicate. In this tournament, as during HoCo, their FOGO won the majority of the faceoffs. This gave the team possession, but the offense couldn't translate this into points nearly as often as they should have. And of course it denied the other team possession, so not as many points were scored against them as would be true with a more "average" FOGO. Without the FOGO carrying the team, their defeats would have been a lot more lopsided and the team wouldn't be competitive at all. Can a team be coached to attack effectively? Yes. Why this team has not been coached to do so is a mystery. |
| Let me guess, you're the fogo dad? Of course not. You're not even on the team, right? |
| Maybe its not the coach. Maybe the kids aren't athletic enough to get their handsfree. Being an athlete counts |
Coaches miss most of the practices but you might be right that the coaches expect players to use athleticism rather than their sticks to score. Shoot on goal helps too. |
Righto. And how hard are the kids working on their own? The coach only has a few hours a week with them, mainly to go over schemes. It's up to each player to put in extra hours on their own (wallball, lifting, running, shooting, etc.) to get better. |
fogo dad knows it all - the coaches continue to take his direction and meet his needs until his kid leaves in a few weeks. other vlc teams aren't as dependent on fogo. vlc25 biggest strength are its goalies who can counter vlc losing possessions. |
| Get a life, please. |
the schemes you are suggesting is what every other 8th grade team has been doing all year. players aren't getting better with no to low expecations. |
| So what is it you hope to accomplish with these posts? You want us to sign a petition or something? |
|
Offensive players will be totally different on 25 team after tryouts this year. New blood on the way, and they are solid and ready to compete for minutes.
Replacing fogo is going to be a huge issue however. He might be best 25 fogo in the area. At least on age fogo. I'd expect 25 VLC to do a lot better next year as well. |
How much worse could they get? DCEO will expect better coaching, fogos are mercenary for short summer season besides a pole can negate years of fogo training. |
So who is that supposed to be? What other club are they defecting from, and why? |
| There is always movement when kids get to HS because they often want to play on the same club as their HS teammates. |
Movement is movement. Where are the boys coming from? There is limited amount of talent in the 2025 pool of boys. My guess is that if they’re contributing to their team, getting decent playing time, and have friends on the team, the player won’t be motivated to leave. The only kids that leave a team are kids who think they’re better than their current team or don’t get playing time. Rarely are high school friends a motivator. |
| Other than yourself, how many people care what you think? |
