Re: inflamatory statements person --
What - No one can have an opinion unless it is the DCUM politically correct liberal opinion? Give me a break. |
I sort of agree with you, that a non-professional could give him reasonably effective counseling. But nobody said to him, from a counselor, "Josh, this was wrong; it was harmful; don't do it again." While the methods of dealing with these problems by the ATI have been previously posted, it's not clear that Josh received any of these. In the police report, Michelle corrected herself and said that he did manual labor instead of counseling. He didn't get any counseling at all, not religious or professional. |
I am writing comments supporting the Duggars. I am not affliated with TLC. I am an atheist. What -- no one is allowed to support the Duggars? That is what is wrong with you PC liberals. If someone doesn't agree with you, there must be something wrong with them. how about - I analyzed the situation myself and made up my own mind. YOU MAKE ME SICK. |
Social worker here-there are boarding schools/residential treatment programs that focus on teenagers who have molested other children or engaged in other sexually inappropriate behaviors. This would be the gold standard for treatment in a case like this-it gets the offender the intensive therapy he needs and it gets him out of the home environment and away from his victims.
The combination of therapy and a highly-structured residential environment with consistent expectations can work wonders with teenaged offenders. It is VERY rare to come across a molester who was not molested or abused himself (unless the child has RAD-adoptee from Russia, etc.). The next best decision would be to remove the molester from the home and place him with responsible relatives while he undergoes therapeutic treatment. The home life should be thoroughly investigated by a social worker b/c this behavior is very very rare in functioning families. There are outpatient therapy centers which are basically like going to school all day-the teenager spends the day at the therapy center, doing schoolwork and having group and individual therapy. |
Actually, it's Jim Bob that thought that those that commit rape and incest should be killed, according to his own political platform from his unsuccessful U.S. Senate campaign. "Rape and incest represent heinous crimes and as such should be treated as capital crimes." http://defamer.gawker.com/duggar-dads-political-platform-incest-should-be-punish-1706929035 A hypocrite says what? |
You are making a wrong assumption. Why do you keep perpetuating this myth that somehow the Duggars are victim blaming or that the counseling they received blamed the victims? there is NOT A SHRED OF EVIDENCE OF THIS. Read the Duggars' statements. |
Well, the Duggars are pretty sucky parents, then. |
But what about his sisters and the other victim? Shouldn't they have had talk therapy or some sort of play therapy or something? I'm not a psychologist, but it seems like they should have had a safe place to discuss and process what happened to them and to be reassured that it wasn't their fault etc. |
You know what's unfair and mean? When your parents allow your brother to molest you and then do nothing about it. |
From what Jim Bob said, it makes me even more certain that he dealt with Josh in an appropriately harsh manner.
He did not enable him. Clearly, Jim Bob realizes rape and incest are serious crimes and should be dealt with as such. |
How did they "allow" him? |
Why not both? I am religious and if my child had serious problems, I would want him talking both to our priest AND to an experience, specialized psychologist. |
Thinking back on the episodes I did watch of the show, people seemed wary of Josh.
the family definitely treated him differently. he had his own room. they weren't as "warm" to him. Go look and see what I mean. I am convinced they dealt with him in a very harsh manner in order to ensure that he was never alone with the girls again and that he never reoffended. |
You're free to start one! Guess what? There are apparently plenty of us posting here that are supportive of the duggars, why is that so hard to believe? They were obviously a very popular show on tlc, and not everyone who watched it hated them! I'm plenty annoyed by how hateful people are being on this thread, but I'm not demanding to have a thread where people can't post what they want to post, seriously, why make a comment like this instead of opening your own thread if that's what you want???? |
