Homecoming dresses are so short!

Anonymous
Parent of elementary age kids here, so I’m not in the homecoming/high school world yet. But seeing pics of friends and family’s daughters in their homecoming dresses and I’m just shocked at the short (dare I say slutty looking) dresses on all of the girls.

I am not a prude and not religious, etc - generally not a judgy person - but I am feeling like an old person with my reaction to these revealing dresses on young girls.

Am I alone?! Asking anonymously because I know I’ll sound judgy if I ask my friends who are parents of these girls. Dreading my daughter entering this scene and not sure how I’ll deal!

Just curious for thoughts on this topic.

Anonymously, yes. I have to admit, this is my gut reaction too. Not that I think my reaction is right. I'm trying to adjust my old lady pearl-clutching ways of thinking, but this trend is a lot to take at once.

Yes, the dresses are short, but don't worry. By the time your kids reach that age, you'll be used to whatever the current trend is.

And the girls all wear sneakers (at least in every picture I saw of a HC last weekend). I think it's pretty cute.

Haha, yes, not not on the elementary school forum. You must have just crossed over into the tween/teen section. Welcome! This controversy is ongoing and as big as the "are leggings pants" debate.

My DD’s wearing a skirt down to her ankles. She’ll probably get grief for that, for trying to be not like the other girls, or something. They can’t win. Just leave them alone.

dressing like a street walker isn't "cute".

-parent of HS sophmore.

I make DD wear biker shorts underneath her dress, and it must come down a couple of inches below her bottom. Some of the dresses I've seen hit right below the butt cheeks. Some girls wear tube tops to school, and shorts that show the bottom of the butt cheeks.

How on earth is that appropriate attire for school?

Oh good the yearly girls are sluts post because their dresses are short.

Yawn, some things will never change.

- called a slut for wearing Jordache too tight.

How do the girls sit down? Seriously---the dress is super short to begin with. Then when they sit, it rides up even more. Is their butt still covered by the dress when the sit?

I can understand wearing shorts underneath but again, aren't the dresses too short so that the undershorts show below the dress?

Maybe the dresses are longer than I think.

Yes, and I'm sure she doesn't push her bike shorts up when she leaves the house.
