Homecoming dresses are so short!

Yeah, not much has changed since the 1960’s

dressing like a street walker isn't "cute".

-parent of HS sophmore.

I make DD wear biker shorts underneath her dress, and it must come down a couple of inches below her bottom. Some of the dresses I've seen hit right below the butt cheeks. Some girls wear tube tops to school, and shorts that show the bottom of the butt cheeks.

How on earth is that appropriate attire for school?

Sexism and slut shaming isn't cute, either. But you seem to have that down pat, anyway.

Call me what you want, but I'd rather be "sexist" than have my DD look like a prostitute. And don't think I'm the only one who's thinking that.

Also, I didn't call them a slut. That's a word you chose because you probably subconsciously equate dressing that way with being a slut.

If they only realized how ugly and undignified it is to see them constantly hiking up the front of the dress to coverage their cleavage and then also constantly tugging down on the hemline to cover the last inch of their cheeks.

DW and I were finishing up date night dinner Saturday when we encountered droves of teens coming in for HC dinner. I loved that all the girls were wearing sneakers (mostly Jordans & Chucks) except for maybe 2 or 3 girls. They all looked so comfy and adorable.

There is classy and there is trashy, and kids need be educated on the difference. Unfortunately, it cant be taught just before choosing an outfit, it's part of the broader process known as parenting.

I don't think it's appropriate, but I also don't think it's appropriate to refer to other women/girls as streetwalkers. Do you teach your HS sophomore to refer to the ones you don't approve of like that?

If those girls were walking out on a street late at night looking like that, people would assume that they are street walkers. Just because they are in a HS gym doesn't make them not look like street walkers.

I teach my HSer to respect her body and to not fall victim to what's trendy with the "popular" girls.
Personally, my eyes are open an I'm aware of what I see in this world. I see girls dressed like this in high school, on TV, the girls on social media, the Hollywood paparazzi pictures, the music award shows on TV, HELLO Kardashians are everywhere even if you don't want to see them. So no, nobody is assuming they are streetwalkers. Do we even have those around here anymore? Nobody is mistaking any of these young girls as street walkers. Is that even a thing anymore outside of Vegas maybe? I remember the girls out on 14th street in the 90's but it's been AGES since that was a thing.

LOLZ - you haven't been there lately. They're definitely back.

That is because they are not allowed to wear heels in the gym. It ruins the gym floor.

But if you point this out, you are slut shaming them and also you should be body positive. Oh and also if a boy glances at their butt cheeks or boobs or notices when their crotch is on fully display, he is the problem and not the girl and it is their right to have their ass or boobs hanging out and the boys should all be better humans and not ever look or comment. This mindset totally works and all the boys handle this great because 16 and 17 year olds are super mature and have no raging hormones or lack of good judgment in groups.

It is the greatest that this is what our daughters want to wear and don't have a single opinion OP. And yep, I have a teen daughter.

It’s beyond me how people think the expectation that only girls show their bodies is somehow liberating.

+1 IMO, it's sexualizing and objectifying girls even more.

-parent of teen DD and teen DS, and I'm somewhat of a feminist.

Those girls have zero respect for their own bodies. People have eyes. H3ll, even a woman/girl would notice your butt cheeks hanging out.

+3 Definitely.

Yawn, some things will never change.

- called a slut for wearing Jordache too tight.

I think they look done. It looks like they’re wearing a baby romper. They look like babies.

I think they could get that short look if they elongate their legs visually with heels. Without having to wear 1/4” past the hoo ha.

My son’s and friends’ dates all looked great. They all wore sneakers to the recent HC and prom in the spring too — not because the venue insisted.

I mean, I agree, but my 14 year old daughter will burn my house to the ground if i don't let her wear teeny shorts and a teeny dress to school/hoco. I hate it. Very low brow and tacky.
