Totally agree. These people arguing ignorantly that property values don’t affect them have never lived in areas decimated by a general decline in property values. You don’t need to look that far away to see the dynamics from the rust belt a couple decades ago.

But hey, she said she couldn’t care less, and that probably extends to even getting a beginner’s understanding of the negative impact on her coveted social equity platforms.

I think she thinks that if she says she doesn’t care about people’s property values enough times then she’ll get an extra amount come government handout time.

Most people care about property values. However, RIO is over the top since most of the area going to Skyview is similar to theirs. Makes no sense.

It seems like the loudest, most-well connected voices are getting their way with the current ridiculous process. If FCPS wants us all to "get a vote" on the boundaries, set up a vote. If they don't want to do that, then make a decision using your so called expertise and judgment and move us all on.

You keep saying that FCPS shouldn’t listen to families, and we keep telling you how absolutely absurd that is. Sounds like you just don’t want to put in the effort that others do to advocate for your own kids.

RIO's facts are "I want." Everyone wants stability and a good school. Not just RIO. Everyone wants good property values. There is no reason to think property values will drop.

I've not seen one concrete reason why Crossfield should not go to Skyview. Not one. Oakton is at capacity and there are currently well over 50 new construction homes in the boundary--and many more to come. It is puzzling why the data was not included in the presentation last month.

The new schools will have sports. VHSL sports.
The new school will have challenging AP classes and electives.
The new school will save money on transportation.
The new school will save time on commute--better quality of life.
The new school will be a community school. Crossfield families shop in the Skyview area. The children play sports in the Skyview area.

Oakton parents works hard and paid for high price for their property.

You are saying it is fair to move other people's kids without concrete reason? What benefit bring you by moving other people' kids?

Oakton parents do not shop in Skyview area.

Ask Chantilly parents, ask Mclean Parents, ask Great Falls parents, ask Centreville parents, they will tell you the same reason why they need to stay.

The only people who want to go to Kyview is because the see their house value will increase a lot by rezoned to Skyview.

I would say it is fair for you to give up your home so other people can live in your home and you should work hard to support them!

I’ve got news for you. Pretty much all parents are working hard and doing the best they can to buy a house in the best neighborhood they can afford. Oakton parents are not unique whatsoever. Except maybe stupider if they think paying all that money for a house is going to result in a better outcome for their kid.

Go visit the college forum and you’ll see that it’s a wash. Oakton is an incredibly competitive high school. It is harder for kids to stand out or make sports teams. As an example, it is easier to get into UVA from South Lakes compared to Oakton. I’m not sure all of the hustle is worth it.

I just think it's funny that so many people think that the value of their house is based on the high school it's zoned to. There are $2 Million houses zoned to crappy high schools, it's location based. This area is close to Reston where there are a lot of jobs and an easy commute to Tysons, where there are also a lot of jobs. Home values are going to keep going up, not because of the high school they are zoned to, but because this is a high demand area due to high paying jobs within an easy commute.

Do you have kids? Once you have one, it will make sense to you.

A lot of people have been saying that Skyview will be on par with Chantilly, and the homes around Chantilly are pretty much the same as the homes in Franklin Farm and the surrounding area. Home values in places like Chantilly Highlands and those zoned to Floris are pretty much the same as Franklin Farm and the surrounding areas, too (because they ARE the surrounding areas). Even Floris houses zoned to Westfield and South Lakes are $1M+ homes.

Real estate is expensive here. A million dollar home is only slightly over the average. Doesn't mean the schools are good or that houses zoned to a good school don't sell for more.

The Franklin Farm moms crying about home value live in homes that are worth $850K - $1.2M if you look on Redfin/Zillow right now. The same or similar homes are selling for the same amount that are zoned to Oak Hill, Floris, Lees Corner, even Fox Mill.

Why on earth do you think the move from Oakton to Skyview is going to DECIMATE your property value? You sound insane. Look at the houses for sale in this general area? They are all still high. Unless you bought your house in the past 2-3 years, your house has gone up SIGNIFICANTLY in value no matter where you live.

DP. I understand wanting to stay at current school where you feel an attachment. But, I do not see why some think this will be a huge downgrade. It won't.

Having had kids in high school, I cannot imagine that they cannot see what a big plus to their quality of life would be to avoid that terrible, awful commute. Even if your kid has a car and can drive, you likely still have two years of an awful commute to pick them up at after school activities--not to mention the awful bus commute for your kid.

Hours a day on a bus is not optimal for any kid. I know some do it for TJ and i have never understood the tradeoff there.
