Where in DMV can we buy house for 600K?

Anonymous
Hello,
Is it possible to buy a home or townhouse in at least a semi ok school district for around 600K? Can folks suggest neighborhoods in DMV area? We’re just starting to look and feeling a bit defeated with the prices...and unfamiliar with MD and NoVA.

Right now we’re renting in an ok school district in DC but certainly can’t afford a house here. hoping for at least a 2 bedroom, 2 bath (maybe a basement or backyard where I can escape my kiddo on occasion) and not too north or east of DC due to commute. Any advice appreciated!

Parts of Silver Spring, particularly in the Northwood and Blair school clusters.

You are pretty much going to need to go outside the beltway with that budget in NOVA. You might be able to find a townhouse around 600k in Vienna.

Keep looking in that district. Diamond ES. Currently districted for Northwest HA, which is rapidly improving. Most likely will be moved to Crown HS after it is completed, which will almost certainly be an improvement.

Yep! Maybe Einstein cluster or Northwood.

How far are you willing to go out? You can easily find a townhouse for that in Fairfax county. This one is my (amazing) neighborhood in Burke, but if you’re commuting downtown to a non vre location everyday, that will get old, fast.

A "semi-okay" school district is totally subjective - you'll need to figure that part out. Here is a house less than $600K and is part of the Downcounty consortium that can give you access to five different high schools: https://www.redfin.com/MD/Rockville/11121-Schuylkill-Rd-20852/home/10502898

Not OP, but I would not want that commute (although I recognize that people do it).

OP, this first one in Woodmore is a steal.
