That was probably the poor little girl who called out and was shot and killed.

Heartbreaking.

So basically a bunch of trumps cops and bikers have converged on the town to try and get this story to blow over.
They are trying to stop coverage for fear that it might instigate change.

I think it is driving change.

Not among the media, of course, but normal people are seeing for themselves that all the millions of dollars spent on police weaponry and hours and everything else across the country doesn’t guarantee a functional police force.

It's a very clear look at cowardice, dishonor and abandonment of duty by police who were simply afraid of a gunman armed with an assault rifle, and who was firing it.

In a way, the abject, paralyzing fear shown by the police is understandable. Assault weapons turn people (who get shot with them) into pink mush.

So maybe we ought to make them illegal to sell (as they were under the Assault Weapons Ban.). It's too late to do anything about the mountains of assault weapons already loose in American society and gun "seizures" are never, ever, ever going to happen.

But, via reinstitution of the Assault Weapons Ban, and the outlawing of further sales of new ones, with a concurrent outlawing of the sale of extended clips (a favorite of mass shooters, more bullets meaning more victims) we might get fewer mass shootings and when they happen (because they will) fewer victims.

Republicans oppose this. If you oppose this, and are think recurring mass shootings in schools and other places are no big deal and just fine with you, vote Republican.

The Democrats aren't perfect but they're not the Republicans who are apologists and enablers for the gun industry and, by extension, mass shooters.

+1, plus this. GOOD LORD.

This video is unbelievable. Absolutely shocking. Such cowardice. Bottom line: As we saw here, police are terrified of anyone with an assault rifle, as their actions (or total non-actions) in Uvalde showed on that day.

Hmmm, wonder if perhaps it should be illegal to sell assault rifles? The Uvalde shooter bought his very recently, as soon as he turned 18. Too bad he was able to go to the gun store and buy it. He might be still playing video games in his basement. And those 19 kids would still have their faces.

It's too late to do anything about the assault rifles out there, but we could stem the tide of more. Oh wait, we can't. Republicans don't really mind mass shootings. They're the price of "freedom," right?

I would like the names of the police officers who threaten her. These republicans are amoral.

And chickenshit. Bullying and pushing around a young woman desperately attempting to rescue her children (because the cops won't)? They're all over it.

But take on the loner, freak, misfit slaughtering little kids with his newly purchased assault rifle? Um, not so much... Gotta maintain that perimeter!

Gut-wrenching, and infuriating. My only hope is that puts YET ANOTHER spotlight on the Police, their lack of accountability, overfunding of their weaponry, and underfunding of their conflict resolution training. This isn't just about fetishizing guns, it's fetishizing police. This has to end!

People are not such cartoonish versions of themselves. I cannot believe that a whole bunch of officers stood around, heard what was going on inside those classrooms and did nothing. I can imagine one or two people froze but this seems unbelievable. Not all cops, even macho Texas cops with boots and hats, are that cowardly. I do wonder what really happened.

Why do you want to give them the benefit of the doubt at this point? They left little children in a school to be murdered. Imagine the last 45 minutes of life for those kids- terrified waiting for help and none comes. It’s disgusting and those police officers deserve no ‘wondering’ or assuming good intent. Based on their lack of action they are pieces of sh**. No wondering in my mind.

Then you are someone who really, really struggles to grapple with reality. Which many people do.

We know the facts here. It took over 1.5 hrs for the cops to enter an active shooter situation. They did nothing. They protected themselves and let others die.

They abandoned their duties and they should be punished severely.

A bunch of republicans conservative gun nut police were too scared to enter and kill the guy. The towns SWAT team did not show up. Now those same police officers and town officials are huddling with Abbott and friends. These guys are now going after the parents. That is what is really happening.

If he was a black kid with a cell phone he'd be dead. A white guy with a gun? Different story.

Police are always unlawfully murdering people for nothing then investigating themselves and finding no wrong doing. Then the one time when everyone universally agrees that they should do the murder, they don't. Their job is to be "the good guy with the gun" to fight "the bad guy with the gun" and risk their lives to save little babies in schools. Instead they were more interested in saving themselves.
