Has anyone done aqua classes? I am so embarrassed because it’s for old people at my gym, but I’d really like to try it. I think it would be the right level/challenge for me, as I am not in good shape. |
If it's the right level of challenge for you ... then just do it! Yes, there are a lot of old people there. There are also some substantially overweight people b/c the water causes less pressure on joints.
Do what's right for you. People generally like it a lot. It isn't the very best workout -- but it's kind of dependent on how hard you try to actually do the moves vs. slacking off and kind of fluttering around. There are those who mostly yak and move very little, and there are those who make actual exercise out of it. If you don't like it, then you can use the pool at another time to start water-walking with arm strokes or use a kick board to get across the pool. Whatever gets you moving is what you should do. |
I say do it. When I used to see the aqua classes at the pool south of Alexandria High School, some of the ladies were getting after it pretty hard. Honestly. |
Yep I take the classes right next to the 70+ ladies and gents. I’m no spring chicken at 43. The instructors still provide a challenging workout, for all ages and abilities.
Please come join us! |
Yes! Thank you - I’ll do it next week! You all are so supportive! I played tennis yesterday in 92 degree heat, for the first time in years and now my hip hurts me. Some low impact next week would be amazing! <3 |
Don’t be embarrassed. You are doing something good for your body! Try it. While yes it is mostly old ladies, they seem to highly committed. It might be a fun group if you become a regular. |
The old ladies are super fun! I did it once for an article I was writing and they were so excited to see me there and wanted me to keep going, but that pool was not convenient for me and I never went back. |
+1 I am very fit and in my 40’s, and I love the aqua fitness workouts. I find them to be challenging yet also restorative. It gets my blood moving, and I feel so much better afterward. |
OP here. I live in a hot climate and the water aspect is huge for me. It’s so difficult to exercise outdoors in the heat (at least for me). This sounds like so much fun! Thank you all for being so supportive! |
How are you at swimming? I have seen deep water aqua classes at rec centers. Don’t think you can slack off much in those! |
You have the option to wear a flotation belt for deep water classes. |
Yes, but if you don’t take the option I imagine its quite a good workout. |
I used to do it before I moved . The deep water classes are the best. If you are super in shape it won't be challenging, but if you're not it is great. I found it really relaxing to float around in my belt! I have a foot injury and am thinking of restarting, even if I have to drive a ways. |
ALso, stop worrying about what other people think. The only ones seeing you in the pool are people doing laps, who are wearing goggles, and kids taking lessons, and they think everyone is old! It's great for people recovering from injuries, as it's not weightbearing |
You wear flotation belts in the deep water class, so you don't have to know how to swim |
