I am pregnant and my parents, who will be there, are in their mid-late 60s but otherwise healthy. My husband really doesn't want me to go - I am watching and waiting, but know things could change rapidly in the US (and in DC) in the next week. What would you do?

Omg, no way. You’re pregnant. Why on earth would you do this?

I had a really bad case of pneumonia (was hospitalized) when I was 8 months pregnant and it was the worst experience of my life. The baby squishing your lungs--every breath was so difficult.

My neighbor has plane tickets to attend a dance competition – for her daughter – in Dublin, April 10th.
It’s some international competition.
Yay or nay?

This question is more geared to those who are still comfortable proceeding with their established travel plans (cause I know what the rest of y'all will say!). Would you make any NEW flight reservations? I was set to tag on some personal days at the end of a work trip next week to attend my cousin's wedding. My work trip just got cancelled- so the choice is 1) book a flight just to attend the wedding, or 2) don't go. Domestic location where there are no cases (yet), bride/groom have no plans to cancel. My parents and the rest of my family are still going.

Again, barring any changes in my health, etc., I would have continued with the original plan without question. But now I feel weird scheduling a new flight! And strangely the flights to that location are still expensive so I guess others are not cancelling.

Cancel. Every answer is cancel at this point unless you are literally Fauci and need to get somewhere. Just cancel.

My brother is planning to fly JFK to Tokyo to Kuala Lumpur at the end of March for no reason other than to guarantee his airline mile status for the year. Can’t talk him out of it. I am hoping either travel restrictions or cancelled flights force him to stay home.

Sounds like the Irish Dance World Championships - my daughter did Irish dance for years. I wouldn’t be surprised if the competition ends up being cancelled. There’s going to be thousands in attendance. Many years ago, they cancelled Worlds when Mad cow disease was going around the UK.

Pretty sure the dance competition is going to get cancelled.

The Olympics look like they are going to get cancelled.

Seriously?

DC needs to quarantine in a room in your house, avoiding the family. A hotel will expose others.

You just confirmed my decision to get DC at a closing college all in one day despite the long drive.

Also, important to have DC where you can ensure DC is not going to 'get bored and go out'.

Why would you want to even walk through JFK. It is high risk for corona not to mention Tokyo.

And I say this as someone who was still planning to travel abroad in early April a few days ago.

I live in a college town that just closed. There are tons of traffic on the road. College kids are shopping. College kids are drinking. College kids are
going to the beach. College kids are going to restaurants. Traffic on the roads is busy as everyone is out entertaining themselves.
College staff is getting paid and not working so why not.

Question: If the Mayor recommends all events, where there is a gathering of 1000 or more be canceled, why aren’t the schools closing?
