I really hope so. She was my "girl" from the beginning. Where did you hear this from? |
Amy has been on a massive diet Stacey has not. |
Inexperienced, would be a poor pick. |
Stacy Abrams seems to have big personal aspirations and needs to be a good second player as Biden was to Obama.
Amy seems like a better fit. |
These old white guys were/are so disgusting. I wonder if Biden even knows this story though. Dodd was instrumental on banking and Obamacare committees, surely that's why he was picked. |
His vetting of the vetting team isn't all that impressive then. And, do you really think he is unaware? He has been in public service for 44 years, FFS. |
I think many of them live in a bubble. Remember Biden was on the train home every night, not hanging out with his bacchanalian colleagues in DC. |
I think she is the right choice because she would energize a key component of the Dem base, African-American women, some of the party's steadfast loyalists (See Jones, Doug - 2017 special election). Biden doesn't need Klobuchar in the Midwest as Biden bleeds the Midwest. Abrams grew up middle class and continues to work in communities most affected by this crisis - we need common sense and compassion right now, both sorely lacking in this admin. Any black woman who has reached this pinnacle has been tested every day. Abrams is no different. Biden needs her to win. |
Yes, the staple thrower seems like a better fit. Not. Klobuchar is not going to be a torch to the base in the way that Abrams will be able to fire up people. Please let Klobuchar not be a Kaine 2.0. (And I like both Ks - they're just not fits for this!). |
PP heard it nowhere. Some people just like to pretend their personal opinions are facts. |
Abrams can fire up the base, but could potentially turn off suburban soccer moms who will want someone who can be president from day 1 if necessary (which it could be, come on). Abrams is an absurd choice by that metric. Only Warren and Klobuchar have the experience, together with Grisham and a few other NE Senators. They're not ideal in some respects, but they meet what should be the number one criterion: experience and policy chops. |
DP here. She is definitely the wrong choice. The VPOTUS has to be someone who has the executive experience to take over running the operations of the biggest bureaucracy in the world. Even if the experience is not in politics, there should be executive experience. Should POTUS be unavailable, even for something like surgery or an accident, Covid-19 or anything else that may happen, the VPOTUS may need to step into a running organization and keep it running until the POTUS is available. Stacey Abrams is extremely inexperienced for the office. 10 years as a state legislator is not even close. And since she was cheated out of the Georgia's governorship, she has started up a small non-profit. A small start-up is hardly executive experience for running the federal government. At least Buttigieg was a mayor. He had 8 solid years, two terms as a political executive running a small city. Far more relevant experience than Abrams, and even he got chastised repeatedly for being inexperienced and told to run for governor, US Senate or US Congress and then come back with more experience. Abrams needs to actually run something that has multiple moving parts, departments, and many employees. It's like a grade schooler trying to teach a college course. The only thing that she has in her favor are the identity politics. Right now, with Biden's age, concerns about his physical and mental health and the fact that he is in the most susceptible age group for serious complications from the pandemic, voters, especially swing voters need some reassurance that voting for Biden will be a good thing. If he becomes incapacitated, even temporarily, the voters need to be assured that his running mate is qualified and capable of taking over the reins and running the government. Abrams does not give any such confidence. She will lock in the black women's vote, a vote that almost assuredly Biden already has (they are not going to vote for Trump). But, she will turn away many critical swing voters, independents and moderates who will not trust that she is up to the task of succeeding Biden should he become temporarily or permanently indisposed from office. Selecting Abrams will be handing the election to Trump just to appease the base. As the saying goes, winning to battle just to lose the war. Those who are looking at identity politics need to step back and consider the full pictures. If you are going to select a minority woman, you need someone that instills confidence that she can handle the job. There are many women with the right qualifications, but relatively few with minority credentials. Harris, Lujan Grisham, Duckworth, and Rice are all qualified minority women with significantly more appropriate experience that Abrams. Even Atlanta Mayor Lance Bottoms has more experience and has gotten national recognition for the media battle of words with the man who cheated Abrams out of the governor's mansion. |
I'm liking Duckworth more and more. Incredible bio, her military experience and sacrifice will be broadly appealing, very smart and a straight shooter. Bringing the heartland bona fides as well. Not the most experienced candidate on the list, but enough to be credible. In addition to experience, I think Biden needs a candidate perceived to be honest, trustworthy, and authentic. Duckworth would be great in this respect as well. |
