Mostly I think it’s resenting the sheer audacity that someone could have a different opinion than they. This is not a trivial thing for people who consider themselves correct about everything. It’s an affront. From there, the hatred grows and feeds on itself.

Five or six years go, Donald Trump was just a eccentric, loudmouth rich guy with a tv show. No one hated him. No one called him racist. He was just Donald Trump. Three times married, lots of girlfriends, numerous affairs, expensive divorces, rich playboy real estate tycoon and tv producer. Yes, he was boorish and unsophisticated compared to typical east coast blue blood aristocracy... but no one would ever suggest he was a Nazi.

Now, people on this board regularly say that Trump is worse than Hitler.

Kamala Harris’s comment on the matter is...well..pretty much what i thought it would be. “Yeah, making a false report is bad..BUT HATE CRIMES ARE ON THE RISE!”

No buts, Kamala. Making a false report, particularly one like this, is bad. Full stop. No ifs, ands, or buts. Jussie’s false claim didn’t just waste countless police resources..it did damage to ACTUAL victims of hate crimes.

I agree with the bolded part of the post (and the rest of it for the most part). But the takeaway is that he exploited what he knew would be a hysterical media and twittersphere for personal gain. Black, gay, MAGA, noose, bleach; perfect to catapult his career from D-list actor to a high profile victim. This story was patently absurd from the start yet his plan worked perfectly; for the first few days at least. It became a rush to see who could show the most outrage. Kamala was probably getting ready to parade this idiot all over the campaign trail. He called himself the "gay Tupac" in an attempt to fashion his own legend.

Smollett is not the cause of the problem but rather a symptom of it.
